Snowbooks1419 Posted July 9, 2015 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Over at Buildfeed.net, the builds of Windows 10 with the highest build numbers are: 10.0.10224.16384.th1.150708-1812 10.0.10500.0.th2.150706-1800 10.0.10501.0.th2.150708-1754 The build numbers have suddenly jumped from the 102xx range to the 105xx range. Not only that, the 102xx builds say "th1," and the 105xx builds say "th2." "th1" could mean that it's the first release of "Threshold" (Windows 10, as we probably all know by now), and "th2" could be the second release of Windows 10 (either the Fall 2015 update or Redstone). The compilations of Build 10224, 10500, and 10501 could have 2 implications: Since the build numbers have jumped from 10224 to 10500, Windows 10 RTM could have a build number between 10224 and 10500. (If Microsoft is still requiring that RTM build numbers are divisible by 16 and 100, then Windows 10 RTM could very likely be Build 10400.) Remember, Microsoft normally jumps build numbers when they have a major release. For example, they jumped from Build 8888 to Build 9200 for Windows 8 RTM. Microsoft has started working on the next Windows 10 update, the builds of which are currently in the 105xx range. The build numbers may not be relevant to RTM since they have already branched the code to start working on the next version. If I see 10.0.10224 and right after that 10.0.10500.0, does that mean there were 226 builds between them? How does this work? Josh the Nerd Posted July 10, 2015 Share Posted July 10, 2015 Notice they've been jumping the build number in increments of 16 (10176, 10192, 10208, 10224 and now 10240.) It seems they're pushing out RTM candidates on that branch, and don't care about having a nice round number this time. By the way, if I look at Buildfeed.net, the build numbers are not sequential. If I see 10.0.10224 and right after that 10.0.10500.0, does that mean there were 226 builds between them? How does this work? It means they've "forked" the code into two branches. The th1 build lab keeps making new 102xx builds, while th2 is producing 105xx builds.
