Hi All

Have a old system HP P6-2133W, with AMD Apu A6-3620 with Radeon 6530D (Liano based)   so far the Get Windows 10 App only shows PC meets Requirements, and nothing else so far, so very worried that this ancient system will end up not supporting Windows 10, which means i'll have to try to save every penny to get a newer system before a year is up to obtain the free upgrade.     badly wanna experience Windows 10, and eventually DirectX 12 games, and such, I know this current system won't have it, but really really on a very low budget, but if I have to, i'll do best I can to afford newer system

(Not quite sure I agree with your definition of "ancient system"...)

Hi,

I've been running the preview on an Acer 722 - AMD apu C-60 / Radeon HD 6290. That's even lower specs, I think.

The desktop usage, playing videos locally (not streaming), and basic games like solitaire are ok - current graphics driver from AMD dated March automatically installed by Windows.

BUT...

Some of the games from the Windows store - just hidden object puzzle games - that used to play smoothly under Windows 8.1 are now jerky and choppy.

The newest beta driver 15.7 from AMD won't install for my apu - and maybe for yours as well. It seems unlikely that older, lower-end cards will support DX12. That may change by the time Win10 is officially released.

I'd suggest waiting a couple of months to see if there is more or clearer news on drivers.  If you decided to try it, it would be a sensible plan to create your own back-up image on a separate drive, in case it doesn't work.

Win 10 itself does include a "GO BACK" option valid for (?)28 days after upgrading. I tried it after making a mess of my install and it took me back to Win 8.1 very neatly.

Not really what you wanted to hear...

Llano will work great on Windows 10.  It won't support DX12 but the base OS will work fine.

The C60 doesn't even compare to even most mobile/tablet chips.  It's pretty much the bottom of the barrel.

Yes, I know the C-60 is, um, poor - but it's still slightly better - substantially better on graphics - than the Intel Atoms (pre bay-trail) available at the time I bought it.

Allowing for the slow processor, it worked well with Windows 8.1,  and requirements for Win 10 are the same  or even slighter lower.  At the moment, the problem is with the drivers. If AMD get them sorted out, and do support APU's, the OP's machine should be good to go.

As the OP said, meeting the requirements on paper is one thing, real world experience can be different.

as long as W10 retail still accepts Win7/8 drivers youll be fine.

and that's even if AMD don't release support for it, they would still work.

on Insider preview perf with some games, again a) it aint dx12 atm and b) its not final, so take performance with a pinch of salt just now.

and to clarify the DX 12 issue, even if your card does not support DX12, it can still use DX12 base mode without the extra features (in effect DX11.1) its amazing how many think oh it has to be Dx12 compatible card to use Win 10, utter claptrap ;)

Thank you all for the replies, already got a Windows System Image done for my 8.1 system, guess will wait and see what happens once officially released, and or what Microsoft Get Windows 10 App says closer to release, right now only shows PC Meets System Requirements... Might work fine though will find out more as it gets closer to release date...

And who the heck has said that?

I have three systems (one desktop and two notebooks - both the notebooks are AMD-driven) running 10166 today (x64 on all three).  All date back  to 7 or earlier.

Only the oldest of the notebooks has issues -and those are graphics-wise (very old nVidia GPU).

The other notebook (remember, it is ALSO AMD CPU driven) has an AMD mobile Turion II CPU; in other words, it is OLDER than any APU that AMD has ever shipped. (Mobile Turion II is, in fact, the direct mobile "clone" of Athlon II.)  It's no great shakes as a gaming machine (with a Mobile HD4200 graphics core, it wasn't the case with even Windows 7 installed) - however, it IS decent with 7 or later, and due to Hyper-V support (a feature that 7 didn't have), it can even be a development machine (albeit for mobile development, such as Android and Windows Mobile) - which is exactly what I will use it for.

Still, because of new features in the OS (10) that the old OS (7) didn't have, I can use an old notebook for something that the notebook's OWN older OS couldn't do.  Soemtimes, it's because the hardware lacks a feature that you can't do what you want - and sometimes, it's the OS not supporting all the features of your hardware..
