Windows Update in Windows 10: A massive bag of hurt

I tried to tell you that Windows Update (at its overall) is the same for both. (Home&Pro)

I've seen EDU,then ENT (+/- LTSB)...no big deal...

Instead of being happy because MS is developing new stuff in the way it does today,you compete in an Edition's fight...

Related to the OP,why do you consider WU such a big pain?

that tool only allows you to disable certain updates that you select that given time when you run that tool. 

It doesn't control all future updates, so unless you run that tool everyday, there will be updates that will install without your permission.

Pro has that Defer. (despite Home) But only just.

This itself is huge and one faulty driver can knock out millions of perfectly working PCs.

At this point of writing, there are few security holes in Windows 10 down to Windows XP which you, me and even Microsoft is unaware of. At least do you accept that no software can ever be invulnerable? Security problems will be there forever.

But one forced update be it bad Nvidia, Intel or AMD driver or MS KB patch can cause havoc.

Unfortunately, DX12 is what has me tied up on Windows 10. If it wasn't for DX12, I'd stay on Windows 7. I have one of the few GPUs that truly support DX12 ( Nvidia 900 series ).

Thing is though, for a bad driver or patch that's forced everyone will put all the blame on MS and be correct in their anger but a missed patch in the end it's still the users fault.

Nvidia released new drivers yesterday, so problem solved.  I do still find it a little annoying that the driver gets automatically installed and disables my SLI.  More so an annoyance with the Nvidia driver itself though.

If you're running Windows 10 Home, I don't know what you're doing on a site like Neowin.

How it that at all relevant to the discussion?  Step off your high horse dude....  It isn't like Neowin is some elitist tech hub(and even if it was this comment would still be inappropriate).  It'd be nice if we tried to help one another instead of talking ###### every chance you get....

But, honestly, Home Edition is for normal people.

Whilst at first I hated the idea, now I think its a good idea. Windows is service/platform. Developers should make sure their crap works on Windows, and not the other way around. Meaning, windows should always be up to date, and if you want your software on it, make sure it always works with the latest update.

No reason to have machines out there that havent been updated for months/years because of lazy developers, bogging down windows support. lets all have the same version.

 

I do think this will wake up developers, and soon it wont be an issue.

I agree. One version for all! Though, I don't think that would push developers to update anything. As long as Windows supports the compatibility feature, no dev will upgrade their code on a huge project.

yes, it did. Now my windows update will only look for new updates but tells you when it's ready to download and install. I've been using this trick since the tp days
