Windows 10 post upgrade explorer.exe crash loop

Recommended Posts

I figured a solution that worked for me. I had to uninstall Autodesk Inventor 2010.

There were two DLL's that were causing explorer.exe to crash. These were C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2010\Bin\utx.dll and C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2010\Bin\rse.dll.

Since I don't use Autodesk Inventor 2010, I just uninstalled the program but for those who do, try deleting the DLL's or renaming them.

I had to use the process monitor method, to figure out that Inventor 2010 was causing the problem. Hope this helps others out.

Many thanks to Soporifics and all for the advice about IDT sound program, as in incompatible with windows 10 on my Dell laptop. The system would not even let me use the control panel, it would just close the window on me. Any program, document or window that I opened would close by itself. I did uninstall the IDT sound program, cold restart, and the problem was solved. Really, it was my wife's computer, and it was driving her nuts, so thanks very much.
