Push vs. Pull on 240mm Radiator - need fan recc. pls

Recommended Posts

I'm setting up a corsair h100 on the top of my 780t and have read the differences between push and pull configurations for cooling and wanted to know whether anyone had recommendations for types of fans to use.

I know the difference in temperatures are marginal between push or pull. I don't wish to do pull-push together, but rather only pull. I currently have a pair SP140 (corsair's static pressure fans) and wanted to know if that's something that should be sufficient.

I'm running an overclock of 4.5ghz on a 5930k at 1.3v so want to keep the temps as cool as possible. Noise isn't too much a concern.

Specifically I want to have the fans setup as exhaust, because otherwise I just have 1 noctua fan as exhaust and my GPU temps are getting really crazy I feel without extra exhaust.

So exhaust, 2 140mm fans, in pull only on a corsair h100. What would you guys say for a great fan choice? Thanks!

So setting it up with the SP140's I have it like this:

  • White - Corsair AF140 x 2 - intake
  • Purple - Corsair AF120 x 2 - intake
  • Blue - Corsair SP140 x 2 - exhaust, as pull over H110
  • Brown - Noctua NF-A14 FLX - exhaust

I notated that the video card isn't the blower type and that hot air just comes out the sides of the card and hopefully is blowing up and out of the case fast enough not to make a different in my cpu temps too much.  Also do you think this setup has positive pressure? I know the noctua moves a lot of air, so i'm curious.

Thanks guys!

I have three Titan X's and separate CPU loop.

The difference between push and pull will be minimal and should not effect your setup. What you should be more concerned about is getting the hot air off the RAD out of the case.

That being said when doing a push or pull on the top of the case you will have to flip you fans the other way. When doing so make the fan hang and will cause havoc on the bearings. After a few months with a little dust the bearing will make noise and drive you nuts.

The stress comes form point the fan down into the case vs laying them on the back and the fan/bearing have an easier time resting laying down then hanging on while spinning. Hope this makes sense.
