Inappropriate ads

Back on topic: I maintain that those ads should appear even when not logged in.

You are not the OP and that is not the topic...

So what if I am not the OP? And inappropriate ads is very much the topic.

I think that the parallel line between those ads and the "attractive-looking women" thread is quite relevant. How is it that it's OK to show those kinds of pictures to not-signed-in visitors (who may be put off by those ads, no matter how much you try to justify to them that extra revenue does good) but registered members are not allowed to have a thread with pictures of the same kind? That thread got lots of views before it was shut down and more views = good for ads, no?

Let's face it, those type of ads get clicks. Those aren't the ads that I would click on, but I click on  ads that others find inappropropriate from time to time.

Who am I to judge.

I get why Neobond has to chose ads that aren't intrusive, but on the other hand, I assume people come to Neowin for tech news, and the ads aren't in keeping with that environment.

It's a catch 22 but if you are logged in these type of ads rarely come up, if ever.

Hmm clip of my ads signed out, (used another browser) sy-fi, pretty girls and trucks... wow it is targeted..... :shiftyninja:

**I think I've been on the internet too long, even when not running a ad-block I have a mental one now built in and never even notice them.

Really? Why? Cause i'm deeply perverted? LOL. well not really complaining, I guess this was more of conversation starter

Also ###### QUOTING SYSTEM DRIVES ME NUTS. /rant

I find it strange that Draconian Guppy is complaining about this  :p:rofl:

And yep I agree, there's no place for such content here.

My point exactly! But you are't making any sense by saying "Those ads should appear", then saying no?

If i'm missing something, forgive me, it's monday!

My turn to say that I am not sure that I follow you. My point is that if you allow those ads then allow the thread as well. If no thread then no ads. Every month the desktop thread says it in red that desktops with babes aren't allowed, but the line is somewhat blurred when it comes to ads (especially since they aren't pre-screened).

Whoa one sec guys.. those ads from MGID don't violate any Google Ad guidelines, but a public facing babes thread does.

We had long discussions between staff about this, and decided we wanted to keep the focus on tech for the forums, and not have people signup for the wrong reasons (our site is also age rated for 13 and up too!) we figured that those who can sub have a means to get a PayPal account and therefore are old enough to be responsible for their actions.

A lot of thought went into the decision, it wasn't "banned" on a whim.

Ah so we finally understand each other  You see, it's tuesday!

Wait a minute... who are you to say what isn't and what is  !

I kid... On a serious note, #1 would you care to explain how does advertising a "public facing thread" violate guidelines and #2 Allowing babes on front page/forum to unsigned guests is ok? You do see  how that's slightly double standards? Eg. anyone who sees those ads would think that's what they would get when you sign up?

My point on #1

#3 And maybe in over my head, but wouldn't neowin deals or something else tech relateded be more fit, cause the above says anything BUT tech related   (if these give like 2x the $ then  :punk: )

Edit: not trolling ( in case anyone thinks that way), just honest open conversation, heck this thread should be in general discussion if  that made more sense !

This is a very good idea. I will mail my contact about it.

Yeah I have been seeing these ads too. I don't mind a related ad and for a long time I whitelisted Neowin but for some reasons I keep getting logged out, both on the Desktop IE 11/Edge and Windows Phone IE and now I am at a point that I can't be bothered to login unless I want to comment but these ads are more annoying so I had to Blacklist Neowin until the login issues are resolved.

We are planning to replace it with something much more interesting (and tech related) soon :)

I've disabled it in articles, and I am waiting on new code from another publisher to swap out the one in the forums. Thanks for the feedback guys, I will let MGID know the bad news when they mail me why it got disabled.
