Hi Everyone

WARNING IMPORTANYT DISCOVERY in Windows 10 Build 10.10547

Yo are all aware of a Right Click bug within Windows 10 10.10547. However I have discovered by accident that if you untick "Show Desktop Icons" by right clicking on the Desktop and then selecting View and untick Show Desktop Icons you will no longer see pop-up windows or notifications within build 10.10547. I have raised this with Microsoft and given feedback to Microsoft Insider Feedback about this. Even the desktop folder shows no desktop icons either.

So whatever you do... DO NOT Right Click on your desktop and untick "Show Desktop Icons" otherwise you will completely lose your desktop icons, notifications and pop-up windows from Windows 10. I tried everything in my knowledge to resolve this this is beyond my scope of knowledge. But I would suggest waiting until Microsoft releases a patch or another build. Right Click is fine everywhere else apart from the Desktop...? The only way around this that I could see was to reinstall Windows 10 which doesn't take long thank God.

I never show desktops icons, yes right click does not work, everything else still works, I prefer pinning apps to taskbar as it is, not a big deal

Confirmed here as well on 10547. I have just upvoted an instance of this issue in feedback (maybe yours).

Why not just not have any icons on your desktop?  That way, you remove all desktop icons, but still retain the right-click context menu. But I know what you mean; I don't understand the point of using the Desktop for an app launcher, when you have the taskbar and start menu.

I haven't seen anything about the right click bug. Short form explanation or link, please? Thanks!

Right click does not work at all on the desktop, everywhere else is fine

I'm pretty sure there's probably a registry entry for this that could have saved some time.

press Shift+F10 to bring up the context menu on the desktop. select Show Desktop Items. Profit

I just want to thank you for this solution. i was about to reinstall windows 10 because of this. This is the perfect solution!

I do believe that I may have been the first person raise this problem. I only raised this because when I hid my desktop icons because I wanted to take a screenshot of my desktop to report something else that I noticed in 10547. I then realised that right click wasn’t working. Not only was right click not working. But it had also stopped popup windows and notifications from coming up.

Right click everywhere else within 10547 was fine apart from the desktop. And others that I spoke with on other forums had exactly the same problem as mine. No right click on the desktop. I don’t think this is a major problem otherwise there would have been loads of people with the same problem and there isn’t. Of the top of my head it looks as though it might be around about 20 people. Although as I said, this only happens when you perform a task in a certain way. All I done was removed the desktop icons… this is how I discovered the problem in the first place. SHIFT+F10 doesn’t work.

I am only running Windows 10 10547 on my Surface Pro 3 and my main rig is still on Windows 8.1. I have blocked the Windows 10 upgrade until I get new drivers, which are coming soon.

TenForums have reported the same problem as mine where all of the sudden right click stops working on the desktop but fine everywhere else.

I couldn’t take a screen shot because this affected the pop-up windows as well. I originally though that... It was similar to an extended desktop display. you move from one monitor to another. If your monitors are out of sync they do not display correctly. Well this was similar, But I ruled this out when I changed my res from recommend to 1024x768. I even went as far as Safe Mode which made no difference at all.
