Snowbooks1419
Hello! The Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL look really, really nice -- but there's one thing that's making me hesitant about them. I do not like software updates. Is there any way to turn off software updates on the Lumia 950/950 XL so that the phone won't download/install updates to Windows 10 Mobile? goretsky Supervisor Posted October 12, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted October 12, 2015 Hello,My guess would be that they probably cannot be disabled, as that goes against Microsoft's Windows as a Service (WAAS) plans. Since neither the phones nor Windows 10 Mobile have been released yet, there's no way to tell yet, though.Regards,Aryeh Goretsky Snowbooks1419 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1274964-lumia-950950-xl-turn-off-updates/#findComment-597082976 Share on other sites

Is there any way to turn off software updates on the Lumia 950/950 XL so that the phone won't download/install updates to Windows 10 Mobile? Looking to buy a Lumia 950 myself but hate security updates, increased functionality, and would prefer to stay on the beta version of Windows Hello. I currently own a Nexus 5 and still have that thing on it's original Android 4.4 "KitKat". xTdub 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1274964-lumia-950950-xl-turn-off-updates/#findComment-597083358 Share on other sites
Dot Matrix
Turning off updates is not something I'd recommend. goretsky 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1274964-lumia-950950-xl-turn-off-updates/#findComment-597083378 Share on other sites
Snowbooks1419
Turning off updates is not something I'd recommend. Why not? (I'm just curious, as I am normally against updates.) Dot Matrix
Why not? (I'm just curious, as I am normally against updates.) First of all, you're missing out on feature updates, bug fixes, and more importantly security updates. goretsky 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1274964-lumia-950950-xl-turn-off-updates/#findComment-597084040 Share on other sites
beanboy89
If you don't want updates, why even bother buying the phone? You might as well buy a Lumia 900 or HTC HD7; pretty sure they're not getting any new updates these days. Snowbooks1419
I think the OP is trolling... I'm not; I'm honestly not comfortable with software updates. If you don't want updates, why even bother buying the phone? You might as well buy a Lumia 900 or HTC HD7; pretty sure they're not getting any new updates these days. I want newer hardware! Snowbooks1419
Why are you against software updates? I like having a sense of stability by knowing that the software on my computers will always be the same. +InsaneNutter MVC Posted October 15, 2015 MVC Share Posted October 15, 2015 I like having a sense of stability by knowing that the software on my computers will always be the same. But do you not feel uneasy knowing you will be vulnerable to exploits and bugs that have since been patched? Unless all your going to do is use the phone for calls, sooner or late ryou will need to update otherwise the app will stop working, for example WhatsApp or any other app that makes use of API's and the internet.
