Additional anti-spam plugin installed

Recommended Posts

We have enabled an additional anti-spam plugin https://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/7715-autoit-anti-spam/ and signed up for https://akismet.com on a yearly subscription (checks the first 5 posts of a new member) Hopefully this works! I wanted to enable honeypot.org api too, but it seems their site is down (as of posting)  http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/projecthoneypot.org

This is marvellous news.  Spam just serves to put people off.

Dunno bout others, but I always found it mildly amusing. They try SOOO hard to get on here, and then within 5 minutes, Mods ban and delete 'em. Kind of funny to watch.

Believe me, I can't understand how this spam isn't being flagged at all, but we have 7 different sorts of monitoring for spam, as well as the build in IPS antispam :/

Its the black magic spam that magically bypass all of your spam monitorings.

eh most likely that superstition fraudulent business aren't that popular enough to be considered as mainstream-spam

So about this anti-spam plugin.  I'm assuming it has the ability to rename post(s)...for example ">>>>I AM A SPAMMER, PLEASE REPORT/FLAG ME-9878695190" but not the ability to delete said post(s)?  If that is the case ... just seems like a waste of money since (for the most part) anyone can tell a spam post from a non-spam post.  Also annoying that you can get a bunch of "I AM A SPAMMER" posts tying up the mini-spy/community activity.  Quit yelling at me. :)

I have zilch experience with IPB ... but shouldn't there be an option where new members cannot post until they've done so in the "Introduce Yourself" section which is then reviewed by Sup/Mod/etc. before they're given access to all?

Looks like antispam is working great... :s There really needs to be a post limit/timeout especially for new users.

Agree. Seems like a simple fix. I mean it wouldn't stop the 1 spam thread but it would prevent the 1 thread to becoming 30 in 30 mins.

Allow new users (under 10 posts) to create 1 thread every 10 mins. That way they can still create a thread and ask a question, but they can only create a thread once every 10 mins. They can still comment and stuff.

I think that would cut the kind of spam shown in the screenshot above off at the knees.

I think this is a really great idea to be honest.

That won't stop the spam completely, what if a bot decides to just reply to every topic?

This topic is now closed to further replies.
