Registry fix to stop Windows from making copies while dragging

Recommended Posts

I don't use Win 8 or 10 so you would have to check if the registry entries are still there, I know it works up to Win 7. While highlighting multiple files in a folder if you accidentally drag one of them to much while doing so holding the Ctrl key, Windows will automatically start making copies of the highlighted files in the same folders with the tag "copy" attached. It can be irritating if your trying to move a group of photos or songs from one folder to another. In the registry is a drag height (up and down) and width (left and right) that are set to 4 pixels. If you accidentally drag more than that (which can happen if your speed highlighting) the auto copy feature kicks in. I set my drag height and width to 10 to stop it from happening to me.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
           Control Panel
                    Desktop

change DragHeight and DragWidth to higher# than 4 (4 pixels)
Right now I am using 10 and so far I haven't activated copy yet.
