sikhwarrior
Hi guys I have bought a HP compaq 8200 elite, I am now looking for a low profile graphics card to install as currently it does not have HDMI port. I am willing to spend £50. The slots on the motherboard according to the HP site is, 1 low-profile PCI 1 low-profile PCIe x1 2 low-profile PCIe x16 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1301362-what-graphics-card-will-be-suitable-for-hp%C2%A0compaq-8200-elite/ Share on other sites
+PeterUK MVC Posted June 25, 2016 MVC Share Posted June 25, 2016 The HP compaq 8200 elite can barely power its self with only a 240W PSU where most if not all low end GPU say you need a Minimum of a 300W. Yeah, He's right. That's what I thought, but wasn't exactly sure. Save up that money for a SSD. sikhwarrior
I only need this computer to run youtube for the kids, don't need a SSD as nothing taxing will be done. And would a Nvidia GT 610 not be sufficient? low profile and doesn't need much power. Kai Y
If all you need is to run YouTube, you probably don't need a graphics card either. From this spec sheet I found, there's supposed to be a DisplayPort v1.1a port, so why not just use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter? It'll be cheaper as well and you don't need to worry about any power or compatibility issues. Looking at HP's documents, the parts list shows that the 8200 Elite SFF was shipped with some discrete GPU options including ATI HD6350 and HD6450. I'm guessing a card that has approximately the same power consumption will work? This PCMag article states that the the HD6450 uses only 27 watts under load. The GT 610 spec says 29W which seems to be in the same ballpark... but I won't know for sure Edited June 26, 2016 by Kai Y Add power consumption for GPU sikhwarrior and Jim K 2 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1301362-what-graphics-card-will-be-suitable-for-hp%C2%A0compaq-8200-elite/#findComment-597472878 Share on other sites
+PeterUK MVC Posted June 26, 2016 MVC Share Posted June 26, 2016 Well the Minimum of a 300W is a round number but if the PSU pops its not a simple replacement the HP compaq 8200 elite is really for Business. So go for a Gigabyte GeForce GT 730 Passive Silent https://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-gigabyte-geforce-gt-730-silent-single-slot-pcie-20-(x16)-1800mhz-gddr3-gpu-902mhz-384-cores-lp-h had Brackets sikhwarrior 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1301362-what-graphics-card-will-be-suitable-for-hp%C2%A0compaq-8200-elite/#findComment-597472996 Share on other sites

flynempire
Hello. I have experience with this machine as I have sold several refurbished units to customers and lately have been purchasing the 6200 which is smaller tower which I prefer. It is a very good machine for business and so far I only had one issue with one tower and that is it. The PSU on these machines are low wattage. Most graphics cards need min. 300W to run. All these machines comes with Intel HD graphics and yes they do share the memory of the system but with 8 Gigs you should have no problem playing YouTube videos. Heck even with 4 you can play but memory is cheap these days and 8 would do well. If you really want a graphics card then get one suggested by PC Mag or the GT 610 but consider changing the PSU if you can. Last time I dealt with an 8200 was 6-7 months ago and I don't recall now if the PSU is proprietary or if it can be swapped out. If it can be swapped out I will look into changing it. sikhwarrior 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1301362-what-graphics-card-will-be-suitable-for-hp%C2%A0compaq-8200-elite/#findComment-597476026 Share on other sites
