FunkyMike
Quote According to a reading from a newly digitized fragment of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Noah's Ark was something different than what is currently believed. The 2,000-year-old text may be proof that the Ark was the shape of a pyramid. Over 50 years ago, a stone thrown by a Bedouin shepherd into a cave led to what some have called the greatest archaeological discovery of the 20th century. The Bedouin heard the stone crack open an earthenware jar. Upon investigating, he found the first of what came to be known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. When all the scrolls and fragments were sorted out, they accounted for about 800 manuscripts. About one quarter, or just over 200 manuscripts, are copies of portions of the Hebrew Bible text. Now, after almost five years, a laboratory established by the Israel Antiquities Authority as part of the Leon Levy Dead Sea Scrolls Digital Library project, has scanned tens of thousands of fragments from the scrolls with a custom-made camera. Each fragment was photographed 28 times at high resolution using different wavelengths of light. The sophisticated technology enabled researchers to read letters and words that were previously illegible. Some of the newly-digitized fragments offered new interpretations of well-known Biblical stories. .... New Fragments Deciphered Haaretz reported that the new reading of the fragments has changed our understanding about Noah's Ark. Thanks to the high-resolution imagery, a word following the phrase “the ark’s tallness” had previously been illegible. However, the new scans showed that the correct words is ne’esefet, meaning “gathered,” which according to researcher Dr. Alexey Yuditsky, means that the ark’s ribs were gathered together at the top in the shape of a pyramid. Dr Yuditsky said that the Septuagint, a Greek translation of the Bible dating to the third century BC, used a Greek verb with a similar meaning to describe the Ark. Moreover, medieval authors like Maimonides suggested that the ark's roof was pointed. The newly deciphered words on the ancient parchments stayed hidden for centuries, but are now bringing answers to many long standing questions, as well as raising new ones. Previously, the story of Noah's Ark was known mainly from the Book of Genesis. However, the Dead Sea Scrolls found in Qumran cave in the Judean Desert shed new light on this story. ... The panels of the elaborate door to the Baptistery in Florence by Lorenzo Ghiberti illustrate scenes from the Old Testament. One of the panels (left-hand-side, second from top) illustrates the life of Noah, in particular the period after the Great Flood when Noah returns to dry land with the help of God. Strangely, the Ark is depicted as a pyramid. http://www.ancient-origins.net/news-history-archaeology/dead-seas-scrolls-reveal-noahs-ark-was-shaped-pyramid-006204?nopaging=1 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1302074-dead-seas-scrolls-reveal-that-noahs-ark-was-shaped-like-a-pyramid/ Share on other sites

+Gary7 Subscriber² Posted July 1, 2016 Subscriber² Share Posted July 1, 2016 I built a boat once and it was shaped like well a boat. A boat shaped like a pyramid would have a hard time staying afloat. BetaguyGZT
Riddle me this: When is an Arc not an Ark? Answer: When it's an Arcology. And no, there are no boats shaped like Pyramids that would allow it to float and stay upright. Not of the kind that would be sized as such & built of heavy materials as the "Ark" was said to have been build of. It would have to been a Spacecraft, when such shapes wouldn't matter as much. Ever wonder why Noah's proper name is Noach in the really old texts? And how there's an era of Mars' history called the Noachian Period that specifically references the abundance of liquid water. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noachian Interesting, isn't it? Well, now I have the basis to write books and make a whole career spewing Pseudo-science to the masses. I'm very grounded in Science and provable Facts; but this one I gotta speak up on. Just ... meh. I don't think so. DocM
There's nothing that prevents a pyramid shaped ship so long as the bulk of its mass is below the waterline. This can be done using ballast (rocks, metal weights, weighted keel etc.) low in the hull. Just look at a modern cruise ship where only a few percent of the ship is below the waterline. There's a proposed flying pyramid superyacht called the Tetrahedron which does this using a trimaran hull and hydrofoil pod, settling on the triple hulls at rest, but other methods which don't need a hydrofoil should work too. T3X4S
LOL - I cant believe I cant believe in stupid fairy tales created at a time in our history when we were still thinking storms were a sign of punishment. Angels, demons, omens, cant eat certain food, etc All of it taken from older stories that people dont want to acknowledge, aren't allowed to acknowledge, or simply refuse to acknowledge. The Noah myth is old, really old. Older than the bible. The authors of the bible stole it from Sumerian folk lore. This is just another perpetuation from a group hellbent on proving their stupid faith has merit. Everything they do is the EXACT opposite of good science: These people desparately grasp at anything to prove their beliefs. Science forms an idea, then tries to disprove it to form a better idea. And now the faithful will refer to this as their "proof" I want off this planet - This doesnt need to be in this category - it needs to be in the religious thread, or the conspiracy thread. DocM
The flood stories are persistent and widespread because most likely have a historical basis, related to post-glacial sea level increases, megatsunamis or impact events. Semitic and Indo-European people have several events which probanly merged in the collective conciousness starting with the flooding of an 800x200 km agricultural region 7,000-9,000 years ago, which is now part of the Persian Gulf. There were also megatsunamis related to an asteroid strike in the Indian Ocean 4,800-5,000 years ago, and several less extensive flooding events in the Black Sea region. Even Native Americans have one, related to the actual draining of a large post-glacial lake. Its perfectly reasonable to assume that somehow, divine or otherwise, some people realized it was time to leave and bugged out with everything they could take including animals. These later blended together to become the various flood stories. So no, this doesn't belong in the Conspiracies section. It's cultural archaeology, which sadly for you includes religion. Not long ago Troy was considered a myth, then it was found. So too with Biblical events, with many now having a historical connection. Get over it. Torolol
while i lean toward mega-tsunamis theory, the bible said it was 'heavy rain downpour' that caused the flood.
