I haven't used this particular Win10 machine in many months, so it's still on a very old (expired) Insider build, 11086, IIRC. I see the latest is 14133 or so, however, I've now tried twice and it I keep getting a BSOD when trying to upgrade the build. Both times, Windows Update seemingly downloads the build just fine, I reboot, it runs for maybe 20-30 minutes, always get to around 80% or so, and then... BSOD. I've never had this issue before, but then again, I used to use this machine a lot more frequently and never had anywhere near as high a build jump before.

Is there anyway I can get onto the latest Insider build? Seems I'm stuck in a loop, as this build is expired.

I'll try using that ISO tool. Would I want to put myself on Win10 64-bit November update, and then re-join the Insider program? Is that possible?

Yes you can go that route.  If you have a valid Win10 license, it is a path to go.

Well, I ended up just doing a clean install, which probably wasn't a bad idea given this laptop started with Win7 and then had many Win10 builds on top of it. Started fresh with the RTM ISO, it automatically brought me up to the November update, I just turned on the Slow Insider ring, so hopefully I get offered the Anniversary Update soon (which I've read is now available on both rings).

From what I read, many people have had this problem. And it seems no one really has any answers. The only thing I could find is that the upgrade process seemingly changed during the 14xxx builds, and since the 11xxx builds have expired, there was an issue trying to read the license info. Ultimately, doing a clean install wasn't a big deal, I didn't even have to back anything up since all my personal files were in Windows.old, which I just copied over.
