SpaceX Interplanetary Transport System (updates)

Recommended Posts

NASA, FAA and NOAA regs won't allow for this to/from Earth whenever applicable. Obviously off-world and during any landing or high-altitude conditions where these conditions are out of their control are exempt ...

Good to know that it'll be able to handle whatever nature can throw at it though. :ike:

Via NASASpaceFlight.com,

A BFT* has arrived at Boca Chica, the first of a propellant tank farm for BFR/BFS. This one's for LOX, about 220 tonnes of it.

NO idea if they'll build it out completely or do it in phases; just a few for BFS hops and more later.

More: a pic of tankzilla from Nomadd's tower cam. He lives in Boca Chica Village, wanted a ringside seat for launches.

I really envy him. Not with the weather which can change on a dime sometimes but where he's situated. He's gonna literally have the best seat in the house and won't have to fight the crowds to get it.

"Yep, BFR launch today. Naah, all I gotta do is turn on my tower cam and sit down on the couch." :punk:

Why you think he bought that house to begin with, haha.

I just wish SpaceX would hook up the village with the high speed internet they promised. Then he can live stream his cam.

Tankzilla is similar to those Blue Origin hauled into KSC LC-36 for New Glenn launches.

While only 2 LOX tanks should cover filling BFS once, many more will be needed for it plus the booster plus refill margins for both.

I'm sure SpaceX ordered a bunch more and are just waiting for them to get fabbed, built and shipped. Gonna need a bunch.

If this is the BFS update Elon was on about, it's shockingly on time!

NASA JPL has been told there may be FH and BFR secondary payload slots to Mars available, just in case they want to hitch a ride.

Also, Eric Ralph is reporting insider info that the BFR Spring structure factory in San Pedro is producing engineering samples, including tanks.
