Hello Folks!

I wish to report about this persistent issue of - 'Feeble Text rendering' within Windows 10.

Text appearance on the Screen actually resemble to a Print-out that indicate that the Cartridge will soon run out of ink!

Text appearance is too meek & feeble!

Is it something to do with the Brightness & Contrast of the Notebook screen?  How to reproduce Win XP kind of stable Text rendering within Win 10?

Don know how this thread will appear in front of your screen, the one over here is portrayed by the means of attached screenshot.

Notice the meek Text-rendering...as if a Sharp-edged pencil is used to scribble these characters!

Inputs are keenly awaited...Please assist.

Dear Members!

Due to difference in Time-zone I will be able to acknowledge your Inputs after some hours. Its 1AM already over here in the National Capital--New Delhi, India & permit me to retire for rest.

But please do not wary for a deluge!..& contribute generously.

It would be helpful to other members if we knew...

1) Which version of Windows 10 are you using?

2) Which browser and version are you using and/or experiencing the problem on?

3) Any browser extensions in use?

4) Have you tried resetting your browser to factory defaults and restarting your browser?

Hello Draggendrop!

Here is the required Info.

1) Version - 10.0.10586 Build 10586.

2) Slimjet Browser- Version 12.0.6.0 (based on Chromium 53.0.2785.89).

3) Ghostery & Printliminator.

4) Issue is Browser-independent & for some reason...it appears to be the case with High screen resolution.

How is the Text rendered at your screen? Can you please post a Screenshot as well?

Thanks.

That issue won't be resolved by MS, many had been dreading this since Windows 8. MS decided that gray anti-aliasing is the "best" for all.

I was about to try to disable directwrite flag but apparently Google also decided to drop support of that flag http://www.ghacks.net/2016/06/06/chrome-font-rendering-google/

Well, try opening it in Firefox with direct2d disabled.

Define high resolution?

My 4k laptop doesn't look like that.

Really? What about this http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/poor-font-rendering-in-windows-8-blurry-text/f52a2002-d748-485c-8b9c-4862806ea94a

It had been several years since users started complaining about it.

Other than blatantly 100% saying it is wrong, I quite provided some solutions that has worked for us in some of our units. They had bad font rendering ever since they were upgraded to 8 then to 10, all drivers up-to-date. Only disabling directwrite (direct2d) can make them tolerable. Apparently the problem also exist in MS Office 2013. The same problem still exist in Office 2016. Now if it is not MS, who then are we going to blame? We had been looking for solutions over some months and as we are not the only ones, many users summarized the same issues by the links above. Also calling Microsoft support is totally useless. They said, IT IS BY DESIGN!

He said he wanted how XP presented it, hence, logically, (in our experience), you will surely arrive at the change of font-rendering of 8 then 10.

And well, with the two I tested a live linux distro on it, the fonts are crisp (Chromium and Firefox). Tell me/us and some of the users in that forum, Is it still not MS?

In our situation which might be true to the OP and if nothing works, downgrade to 7. That was the best solution we arrived at. Given this bad taste, I doubt if we will be testing any future Windows again. No font problems and all things work without patching/looking for workarounds just to make (the) CRM work.

Hello MiloVosmus!

Thanks for an affirmative Confirmation on this subject.

Please suggest on how to disable direct2d? Can this done for Chromium based browsers too?

Thanks.

Windows 8 != windows10. Windows 10 renders differently.

When you say that it appears to depend on the browser, which browsers exactly are you noticing this issue with?

He is using slimjet but says it is not dependent on the browser.

It looks to me like he has a video driver issue. I feel silly being asked for proof that it doesn't happen for me. Surely the OP knows that there would be outrage everywhere if it was like this at high resolution for everyone.

D'oh! That's what I get for responding straight after a nap! My bad, ignore me.

Yes I am going to tell you, it is still not MS. ;)

See my attached screenshots.

In case you doubt my resolution:

This may be of help, but the others posting here are better informed.

On Windows 10, x64 Pro with the latest chrome browser, I have had 2 updates for Win 10 that broke font rendering on my system for chrome based browsers but allowed Edge to work fine......:shiftyninja:.      Could not remember last night what I did, I'm old.....

The newer chrome browsers have removed "direct write" options, which used to fix this for me.

In the chrome browser, type    chrome://flags/

Then enable ‘LCD text antialiasing’ :

I also made sure that no 3rd party font enhancements were used, causes nothing but problems.

Windows 10 will serve you fine, just don't play with anything and use the latest chrome engine.

As far as chrome derivative browser, don't know if this will work with the flags as I have not tested with others....

Iam only able to see 'Pencil scribbles' all around which to me is a Weak n Meek font rendering!

As far as Screenshots are concerned ...Iam not able to gain nothing out of it because what's written within these cannot be scrutinized with naked eyes!

One need Binoculars for the same.

I have tried :::

In the chrome browser, type    chrome://flags/

Then enable ‘LCD text antialiasing’

but couldn't observe any change.

Should I try changing the default Browser fonts from Times new roman to that to say--Tahoma or anything alike?  My default encoding is set to UTF-8 because I need to see & punch in characters of my Native language as well.

All I see are the 'Pencil Scribbles' !
