The ability to change PSN account names hinted at in new PS4 SDK update

Sony may be laying the groundwork to allow PSN users to change their account names.

 

For the longest time, one of the most requested features by PlayStation users has been the ability to change their PSN account names. Years later, Sony isn’t anywhere close to making this dream a reality, but that could be about to change.

 

The patch notes for a recent update to Unreal Engine 4 make mention of PlayStation 4 SDK version 4.008.061, the updated software development kit the engine now supports.

 

As spotted by NeoGAF user Kirbasin, the page then goes on to say that Sony has updated its developer recommendations to allow users to be identified by their account ID, as opposed to their Online ID.

Does anyone know if there is some technical limitation which holds back Sony from implementing the ability to change account names? I would like to change mine, I made it ages ago and would like to alter it.
