chavo
I'm not going to post a link because I'm lazy but there are some good themes on Wincustomize you just have to look. I have no idea what you're tastes are. If you like Mac type themes, simple themes or elaborate ones, etc. Most of my favorite themes are the simple ones or the ones I've converted from msstyles. The latest version of Skinstudio will automatically convert msstyles to Windowblinds format. Right now I'm using the latest TD4.0 Panther release. If you'd like, and you don't have SkinStudio, I will convert some msstyles for you. Anyway here's my conversion of Panther, I'm not the biggest Mac theme junkie but I thought I'd try this one for a little while. QuarterSwede
well, after spending countless hours (last night and today) looking through wincustomize, aqua-soft, customize.org , etc....i have found about 3 WB themes that i can honestly say i like ;) That is the reason I've never used WB. Really good WB themes are few and far between and most of the great ones have been converted to .msstyles anyway. Frogboy Administrators Posted January 17, 2004 Administrators Share Posted January 17, 2004 Huh? Most WindowBlinds visual styles can't be made into msstyles because of the limitations. If I were to make my ju8dgement of msstyles based on what's on ThemeXP I would be saying the same thing you are. During the beta of hyperconvert, I've had to test a lot of msstyles and the number of msstyles that don't totally suck is alarmingly low. But that's par for the course - Most skins, for any program, suck. On WinCustomize you can at least sort by rating which will help a great deal in seeing good visual styles. Most WindowBlinds visual styles can't be made into msstyles because of the limitations. But that's par for the course - Most skins, for any program, suck. For the first point there, most of the skins that can't be converted are the crazier ones with the huge bubbly titlebars and blinking buttons that glow orange and then sparkle neon green, etc. In other words nobody really *wants* to convert them. I definitely agree with your second point though. Frogboy Administrators Posted January 17, 2004 Administrators Share Posted January 17, 2004 http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?sear...rary=1&action=1 Here is a link to WindowBlinds visual styles that are rated a 10 (none of which on the first page are available as msstyles except for soul luna). Aaryn: No, WindowBlinds skins cant' generally be converted because of borders. Lots of the better WB visuyal styles have thicker or thinner borders than what msstyles can handle. Another big one is being able to have a title bar text background which makes the skin look a lot cleaner in many instances. Frogboy Administrators Posted January 17, 2004 Administrators Share Posted January 17, 2004 BTW.. Could not be done as an msstyle. The buttons are moved and there's a roll-up button and the borders are 1 pixel. Msstyles are very good for creating Windows XP-like skins. But people who are into this sort of thing have lots of different ideas on what they want the GUI to look like. Of course, the problem is that many people also have no taste at all! :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/132296-req-the-best-of-windowblinds/#findComment-1612887 Share on other sites

Thanks for the link; it proves my point. The only skin in the top 10 that is any good (in my opinion) is Soul Luna which you have already stated is the only one converted to msstyles. It's not that the other skins suck, it's just that the skin isn't asthetically pleasing (I won't use it for more than a day before I got tired of it) and are generally just eye candy. Most of the WB skins that get converted are skins that many people would use for months at a time. Frogboy, I'm not saying WB isn't a great program (it can do more things than msstyles obviously and debatably runs better than msstyles) but I am still sticking with what I have observed of WB skins. On top of that I use themexp.org very little to find skins. On top of that I use themexp.org very little to find skins. I understand what you're saying. I think it boils down to it being a matter of taste. Some people like running Windows looking like Windows classic but just a bit nicer. Very minimalistic. Sometimes I'm that way and sometimes I'm not. It depends on my mood. The advantage of WindowBlinds is that it can do them all. Every WB native visual style and msstyles is something a WindowBlinds user can use. For me, it's just about choice. I just double click on an msstyle and it's a WindowBlinds VS. I'm running iBar (an msstyle) imported into WindowBlinds that I found here on Neowin that looks just like iTunes. Digital.K
The best minimal Wb skin I have ever used would have to be Essorant's "Jinx": http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?sear...nding&library=1 Really wish he'd update this one for 4.2 and a thinner taskbar, that would rock. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/132296-req-the-best-of-windowblinds/#findComment-1621657 Share on other sites

Marduk
Sinister, has got me thinking, hmmm maybe it's time to try out WB, hmm is 4.2 really hard to uninstall? Does it rape your system when you want to get rid of it still? Last time it broke my "Effects" button in "Appearance" but then that was years ago. Also, do they have anything similar to Compact start menus in WB???
