Dot Matrix Printer?

microcenter isn't the same as a best buy, staples, etc...it is more of a specialty store, and there aren't that many around.

I disagree about that, but this thread isn't meant to debate or discuss that so I'll leave it as is. Either way, the printers are still readily available and have modern connections, that was merely my point.

I say specialty because there aren't any chains that you can buy computer parts from, and there aren't many that you can find the sheer amount of parts in.  Small shops don't have the selection, large shops don't have the selection.  I don't know of a single competitor in NY, PA, or NJ that has the quantity of parts or the availability of parts that microcenter has.  There are 2 microcenters near me...when I mean near me I mean a 1.5-2 hr drive, vs a bestbuy, staples, etc that is 30 min away.  Microcenter is for those one offs that I can't find locally or want a road trip to see something different or get my hands on something that isn't around and don't feel like waiting for shipping.

You are wrong about 1998...but yea.  Probably 2008 or right around windows 7.  Vista computers still had parallel ports.  I remember being able to buy new dot matrix printers around that time, had to for a special case scenario simply due to cost running in a government facility and the sheer amount of paper used....way more cost effective, even now.  Those new printers had a functional life of less than a year.

Just 10 years off, lol. I thought dot matrix used that proprietary connection, not parallel port. Like this:

Whatever though. It's mostly dead now, end of story. While they still are for sale, it's useless for a small business.

Believe it or not, that isn't proprietary. That is what every printer used, even early laser jet. That was your standard parallel printer port.

And what computer made in the last 5-10 years has a LPT port sc302??

https://www.amazon.com/Oki-62418701-MICROLINE-Matrix-Printer/dp/B00007G7O1/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

$360 bucks for this???

You know what kind of printer you can get for $360.. That prints Color pages per second, not 570 Characters per second ;)  Can also be a scanner, fax machine, connected via wifi, etc.

Why would anyone use this for printing invoices??  Any place I have ever gone to buy something or rent or whatever that prints out some sort of invoice is done off a laserjet..

Sorry customer yeah I know it sounds like a construction crew is breaking up the concrete floor.. That is your receipt printing.. Since you had 10 line items it should be done in like 22 minutes ;)

Wasn't saying it was easy to get a computer with a parallel port nor did I hint at it was possible.

No way I would recommend a dot matrix printer to anyone...then again I don't recommend anyone get ink printers either, stuff dries up too quick.

Well ... had a Panasonic KX-P2130 dot matrix ... wish I still had the thing (for nostalgia reasons).  Blistering fast ... could do beautiful colors as well ... sarcasm obviously.  Had it daisy chained with my Iomega Zip drive.  Those were the days.  :)   Wouldn't get near one now.

Oh sc302 I wasn't saying you were recommending anything... I was asking you how long its been since LPT ports have been removed from your typical PC.. I think its been like 10 years..

I agree btw on the inkjet - its crap.. I haven't used one if prob 10 years or so either.. Been monochrome laser at home, and then color when it became reasonable priced for home use.. My color laser was less than 200..

Last dot matrix printer I used home was back with my commodore 64 ;)  If I recall it was a Star NX-1000C... Oh the days...
