Mockingbird Posted August 7, 2017 Share Posted August 7, 2017 I like Assassin's Creed games. Specifically, I like it because it requires stealth and strategy rather than killing everything. (I hate first person shooter). I also like the historic settings. I am looking for other games that are similar to Assassin's Creed. What would be some of those games? Not historic, but they have great controls and interaction as 3rd person adventure/stealth games. There are two on the tip of my tongue that I can't remember. You might enjoy Dishonored/Dishonored 2, which are more FPS but very stealth/problem solving. You may also be interested in the Thief (the reboot last year or so), or even the Tomb Raider reboot (though that is far more FPS-ish). Other things, I haven't played, so I can't discuss. trag3dy Posted August 7, 2017 Share Posted August 7, 2017 (edited) Watch Dogs 2 is one that immediately comes to mind but I don't think you'll find any other games that tick all those same boxes that the Assassins Creed games do. Metal Gear Solid V is another awesome game if you can look past the story (or lack thereof). The game play is some of the best I've ever experienced in a game...ever. To be honest, Assassin's Creed don't exactly have a great back story ether. dragontology Posted August 18, 2017 Share Posted August 18, 2017 I haven't played Watch Dogs 2, but Watch Dogs 1 is literally Assassin's Creed with hackers. Same developer, recycled engine. Literally. If you know AC games, you will be right at home in WD1. WD2 is probably more of the same (possibly better, I'm not judging, I haven't actually played either). For something a little different, check out Deus Ex Human Revolution, the 2011 game in the franchise. It's a reboot of the 2000 and 2003 games, so you don't need to know anything about them (but the original is a classic and you should play it sometime if you haven't already. Get it on GOG). If you like Human Revolution, get Mankind Divided. That came out last year or the year before, and is a direct sequel to Human Revolution. You said you like stealth and strategy and not killing anyone. Well, Human Revolution has an achievement called Pacifist. You can KO enemies, but you cannot be responsible for a single casualty. (No dropping KO'd bodies in water.) There is another achievement called Foxiest of the Hounds. You can set off no enemy alarms. The interesting thing about Foxiest is you can still get it if you set off alarms in the first mission, because in the first mission, the enemies have taken over YOUR base, so the alarms are not enemy alarms. Only alarms in enemy locations count... it's weird. Anyway, I achieved both and I'm not particularly good with stealth, though the DX games are geared toward it. Nothing really 'historic' about DX though, they're all futuristic. For historic, look up the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot. Well, not really historic... I mean, you know Tomb Raider, it's Indiana Jones but with a woman. The gameplay is great in that one, and there's a sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, but I haven't played it yet. You don't have to be a fan of the storyline (it's a bit convoluted, but I enjoy it all the same) to be able to enjoy the stealth aspects. Thief is a good series, although I seem to remember that the latest one got a bit of negative press from fans of the series. My personal favourite is Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, it's got stealth and pretty non-linear levels. I've played Double Agent and Conviction, but they're both very different. Also, Deus Ex. I've only played the original (and not even to the end!), and you can get DX10 texture packs to make it look a little less dated. Gameplay and story are nicely non-linear, you can actually run past some boss fights and see them again later I believe. Haven't played any of the sequels but I've heard good things, and you can play in 3rd person as well I'm pretty sure. Edit: Shout to Watch_dogs and Thief. Only really played Thief 3 (Deadly Shadows) but you can choose 1st or 3rd person as you wish. Don't get caught out though, in Splinter Cell if you drop/fall on to an enemy's head, it knocks them out, but in Thief 3 it does nothing! Yeeeeesss the Splinter Cell series is great, and it's all about stealth (although depending on which one you pick in the series, some of them you can also go through killing everyone like any random shooter, which kinda defeats the purpose, but you can use stealth). I think Chaos Theory was also one of my favs. The first two were cool, I don't remember Double Agent too fondly, and Conviction (and Blacklist) were very different gameplay-wise : much faster, much more "action", while still retaining a good bit of stealth. I still liked Conviction but I think the way they were trying something new with the story helped me a lot. I don't remember blacklist's story as being that unique, however, but the gameplay is pretty much the same as Conviction. A friend keeps bugging me to try the first Hitman games - well most of them, actually. I haven't played more than 10 minutes but it looks like it has some sort of stealth/infiltration thing going. I can't tell you how much, though.
