WiFi issues, slow or not loading on device in back bedroom

So my wife has been complaining about her laptop not being able to connect to websites while she is connected to her WiFi in the back bedroom. I only know that she has a Netgear WND3500 router connected with her Spectrum (Charter) internet, and she says that the issue only happens when she is in her room, nowhere else (states that it works fine while in the living room with the router). She thinks that she needs a more powerful router, but I am trying to advise her that the issue is either channel congestion or LOS being obscured. Without being able to physically put hands on the device(s) in question, I am unable to advise her completely as to what the issue might be, My first thought was that the issue is most likely channel congestion, and I really think that I can have her download the app from the Play Store and verify this, but I do not recall the name of the app that is needed, I am also not sure if the issue is simply the signal strength, she has indicated that the tablet and cell phone also struggle at times to connect, so that leads me to think that the problem is most likely congestion. Am I thinking this through properly?

probably signal quality degradation more than channel congestion tbh. 

 

pair of plug in power line adapters with WAP ability and problem solved  plug master next to router, sling in a cat5 to router and then deploy slave unit to the room and use as an AP.

Or you could just get any powerline adapter and then some AP or wifi router you have laying around you want to use as just AP..

If Win10 1709 is on it, (16299.125), it's because of KB4054517.If this is installed, uninstall it, then  reboot.

 

Then get wushowhide to hide it

 

This KB can also make your wireless adapter disappear from device manager and network connections.

 

MS are aware of this issue, with this update

I use these models personally, 2 pairs (just the vanilla powerline adapters), i use another switch/router as an AP on the other end, as budman suggested above.

I replaced 2 pairs of N300s (600mpbs models) to the 1000 ones, as budman stated the N300s are slooooow (used them for near 10years)

 

Main thing is only buy the TPLink models that has a Gb NIC, the N300s etc are 10/100 

 

The bandwidth stated is 2x the throughput on the adapters.

 

Pairing them is a piece of cake and they are simply plug n play, once you pair them, you rarely touch them again.

this util lets you amend the pairing etc and see the real pairing speeds, disable LEDs, set QoS etc 

 

If you wanted powerlines with built in Ac wifi, your looking at the 1300models.

Would still be cheaper than the standard units plus a decent AC wifi AP but adding a new AC wifi AP would increase coverage more than a plugin extender.

 

You could do something similar to the quick knock up of my setup, placing an AP at the end of the pairing.

 

 

 

You must only plug these units direct into wall sockets, but the passthroughs can happily take a 4 gang power strip and power other appliances without issue.
