Without meaning to bring any serious discussion to this thread, I read about the Dark Forest theory this evening. It works on the analogy of the universe being a dark forest, and all living creatures having an innate desire to survive. Then you go with the idea that each species has the potential of being a hunter in that dark forest. Due to your inclination to survive you want to avoid meeting that hunter, and that is why we haven't been contacted.
