Yes, instead of going on holiday I splashed on PC hardware. I'm here all the time anyway 😛

Btw, what do you test in your 1TB Samsung 990 Pro 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe PCle SSD?

It will be used for some windows vs windows features for Neowin.

I do have a NR200P Max test PC (i7-14700K) that we've used for previous such features in the past year and a half, but I want to be able to boot to a test drive to do the same testing on the 9950X3D too, but preserve my working environment 😛

My PC is all dark, no drive activity LED either lol. It's so silent in normal use you would never know the PC was on without checking for the RTX logo that cannot be turned off since the monitor goes blank after a few mins of no use (OLED).

An update on where the magic happens lol.

Also projector screen on the side, yes on my blackout blinds:

The PC and speaker stands are:

Also got a new chair recently, keep an eye on the main page of the site for the review of it against a competitor soon!

The speakers are Triangle Comete 40th Anniversary, I have number 1152 of 2000. The magnesium tweeters are in a league of their own on how they place instruments around you in time and space. The DAC is the FiiO K11 R2R (also headphone amp for the Arya Stealth) and that is RCAing to the Aiyima A80 which has been upgraded with Sparkos OpAmps. My workstation audio rabbit hole has now firmly been shut.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've never built a PC of this spec before, gone mid-tier but I consider this the highest-tier I've ever gone.

I don't think anything is particularly out of the ordinary here, and I could have maybe pushed to a 5080/90 but I'm just not THAT much of a gamer. I predominantly use my PC for various hobbies (crafting, online quiz hosting, Photoshop, web design, app development).

I guess the parts worth mentioning are:

  • Montech King95 Pro
My god this case was a joy to work with. Spacious, well designed, integrated ARGB and PWM fan hub. I initially had the mesh front on, but found that the cooling with the glass front was equally as good - so swapped back to the glass. Just hands-down the best case I have ever built in. The cable management allowances are lovely too.

  • Stream Deck +
I host online pub quizzes and this allows me to automate so much of OBS, as well as control volume levels. Everyone knows what a Stream Deck is and does, but the addition of the dials on the + was what I'd been wanting for ages.

  • Corsair K55 Pro XT RGB
I was initially looking at mechanical keyboards, or another trusty Logitech K350 Wave, but the integrated (Stream Deck compatible) macro keys on this swayed me. Not gonna lie, it seems to be taking me a little while to get used to the stance and layout here, but hey - am sure I will. I modified this keyboard to have a removable USB-C port, as I utterly abhor moulded cables - it's 2025, grow up!

  • Razer Tartarus Pro
Always fancied grabbing one these controllers, and this one reviewed well, and I got a decent price on it. If only it also had Stream Deck integration...

  • 12.3" TouchScreen Display
Just somewhere to dock an audio player and a few widgets without interfering with the main UI. Also plan to use this for Flight Sim panels.

  • 3.5" IPS USB Mini Screen
Just somewhere to output some Aida64 specs. I am unnecessarily concerned with temperatures so this keeps my 'tism at bay ;)

  • AIO Display Screen Upgrade Kit
See above, just keeping an eye on things. Said I was unnecessarily concerned.

So it seems to handle anything I've thrown at it so far. The fans stay pretty quiet, I get decent framerates. It's not gonna win any records, but it certainly shifts when needed. For me this was more a labour of love, a desire to build something of this spec - more than really necessarily needing to. Hopefully I'm gonna get into a bit more gaming, remains to be seen...
