That is legal....the play is dead if the ball is hit over the fence, but if the play is live the runner is called out. Any contact between coach and runner results in an out.

That is correct.

As long as all runners legally touch the bases while advancing to home, they can touch anybody they wish. The batter or any of the runners could be carried around the bases on the shoulders of his teammates as long as he comes down and touches each base as he reaches it.

Actually, any assistance given is illegal (if the ball is live), a slap to the bum is not considered assistance or rule-breaking.

Yea, my response was referring to Little League (called Dixie Youth here). Ive seen a runner take a wide turn at 3rd and run over the coach and get called out. That's definitely not assistance, but I think you answer is right too.

I umpired baseball for 3 years and some of these I have actually come across on the field. Great idea for a thread just to see what people 'think' they know (Y)

That said, some of those I couldn't answer myself, like the 'refusal to enter the batters box' Never even heard of that. Great find.

I love that, I got to use it once and boy, did he get back in the box in a hurry. :D

edit: the Official wording

If the batter refuses to take his position in the batter's box during his time at bat, the umpire shall order the pitcher to pitch, and shall call "Strike" on each such pitch. The batter may take his proper position after any such pitch, and the regular ball and strike count shall continue, but if he does not take his proper position before three strikes are called, he shall be declared out.

Kind of similar to silly_walks ?

Nobody on base and 1 out, with an 0-2 count the batter refuses to take his position in the batter's box. You order the pitcher to "Pitch the ball". The pitcher bounces one that gets past the catcher and the batter runs to 1st safely. Is he entitled to stay at 1st base?
