While other companies like Nintendo, and if rumors are true, Sony, would rather resell you a NES/SNES/PS1 Classic, MS just keeps adding things to the BC list.  If you already own the games then you're good to go, if you missed them, then at least you don't have to buy yet another piece of hardware.

That's not really the same thing though is it. I mean, you don't even need to change the situation since eShop purchase history is not available from Wii / Wii U or 3DS.

I think a few members here really miss the point of the S/NES Minis. They are collector's items, not alternatives to BC or trying to compete with Raspberry Pi.

I think that's his exact point.  You have no need of buying or keeping more hardware to play your old Xbox games, even from the original Xbox.

Sony gave up on even going back one generation and Nintendo has never done backwards compatibility to my knowledge, except with GBA/DS stuff and physical games.

It'd be nice to see the other console makers do the same, but given the PS3 CPU arch and how late to the party Nintendos online service is it's very unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Right, but people love the Classic consoles. It's not a replacement for BC. I think most would like to have proper eShop purchase history and still get / have the Classics, and there would probably be a lot of people who would like a Classic Xbox too. There's no need to shoe horn in a positive comparison for Xbox BC versus the Classics, when Nintendo don't have BC to begin with. It's an overly complicated argument.

Maybe, but I don't see the point if I can play the same games better on the current consoles.

Everyone has their preferences. Some people like to play old games on original hardware only, even with eShop, PSN and XBL alternatives.

Sometimes "updating" games reveals there flaws on U/HD screens and they look better on CRTs too.

Well, the game code isn't really being changed at all from what I've read, and they're getting great performance, resolution and AA/AF boosts through the interpreter so they look far better in 4K than they ever did originally.  I'm not the biggest BC game player but that to me is pretty spectacular.

Sure, that can be the case, but sometimes updating games really helps, look at the case of some games that ran pretty poor on their original hardware, super long loading times, or low framerates/dips, that just get the boost from being on the newer hardware.
