Neowin GDPR Privacy Policy Update

It is stored by cookie, hence why using Incognito mode will always generate the popup again for that session.

I will tell them they need to test IE, they probably do not account for that browser ehheheheheheheh

Using the latest desktop Firefox here, i made sure the old Neowin cookie was gone, loaded the site made my selection then went to Ccleaner to make sure the Neowin cookie doesnt get deleted, but every single time i come back to the site i get the same popup, so something has gone pear shaped.

i know others have asked but just to be sure, you don't have any addons that could be interfering?

can you reproduce in incogneto or by loading firefox without addons (can be done from the help menu last i remember)?

It's per device and also per each browser and relies on your browser being able to save the first party cookies, ad blocking and https everywhere suchlike extensions will block it.

Neowin is required to have the GDPR popup for EU visitors, I don't make the rules.

I do not block ads on Neowin and I use the stable v66 of Chrome, it doesn't keep popping up for me after I accepted it yesterday.

In addition, the GDPR code isn't even in the forums yet. I am about to add it.

The code is also per domain, so if you access Neowin through an article, the main index or anywhere in the forums, you should also only see it once (after accepting) if you reject you could be prompted each time again.

I can also invoke the GDPR popup when browsing Neowin using incognito, but also only per _session_, not on every page load and Incognito only stores cookies for the session! ?

I just cleared my Neowin  cookies out, restarted Firefox in safe mode so with no addons running, then told Ccleaner to keep the 2 neowin cookies closed everything  and as soon as i open Neowin either in safe mode or with my normal addons  running it still pops up, every single time.

This is sure going to bug people and may stop them visiting the site as it is the worst popup i have seen online with something like this, i can handle the normal thin strip at the bottom about cookies but not something so in my face.

Surely there is a less intrusive option as other sites don't have anything this intrusive in their faces?

Sorry but the popup does not work as you're experiencing it, not even in Incognito mode. In private mode for Firefox or Incognito for Chrome, it will popup once, but so long as you keep that window open you will not be prompted again with every page you go to on the site. So I know the implementation is good, there's something with your setup messing with it.

I don't get it on every page but I get it everytime I visit Neowin after closing the browser, I don't think that is meant to happen if I am not deleting the cookies?

I don't think the cookie is even named "neowin" Quantcast sets the gdpr prompt because that is the service we use, and I do not know what they call it. So like I said, if you are removing cookies after a browsing session, whose fault is it? It isn't the intended behavior lol.

Just closing Firefox and visiting Neowin again produces another prompt though, this is without removing any cookies.

Just tested my other browsers, Edge, IE, Chrome and Opera and i am seeing exactly the same results, which is closing the browser and visiting Neowin again produces another prompt, if it makes any difference i am also seeing exactly the same when using Opera on Mobile.

Maybe screencast it so I can send this over to Quantcast. I can't reproduce it in Firefox.

Maybe it is subscriber level related if it is also happening on mobile?

I probably don't have time for that as i am off out soon and not even sure how to do it, i expect loads of other people also have the problem as it can't only be me.

All you would see is exactly the same as what you can reproduce on Chrome and Edge. :)

The popup still comes up at every visit, even after making sure 1st party cookies are whitelisted. I just gave up and killed it with uBlock origin

Hello, it should be fixed as of last night. Please let me know if you run into anymore issues.

BTW I can confirm that it isn't popping up for me every time I close and open Edge, like kit was a couple of days ago!

As reported earlier on the front page thread it is now fixed for me until I run cleaner, what is the cookie that I need to keep?

I will check again tomorrow but only saw 2 huge random letter cookies earlier so it maybe 1 of those.
