left = minimize

center = maximize

right = close

also, when you put your mouse point on any of the 3 buttons, you'll see a: - for minimize, + for maximize and a x for close..

And what happens on those dialogs that don't use all 3? Then what? Then you don't know if it's min/max, max/close, min/close, min/max.

Or worse...what if it's just one? Probably "close", but I've seen others.

Not having distinct information in front of the user at all times is a bad design flaw.

I don't understand what you mean...

When I point my mouse to one of the buttons, it shows an -,+ or a x.. Even if it's just one button.

Then you know what happens, right?

Yes, but I don't want to have to roll my cursor over the buttons to find out what it means. Imagine if everything was like that and you're supposed to know where it all lives. Would you make all the keys of your keyboard the same color with no letters on it until you put your finger over it? Would you want the icons in the button bar of IE to be all white rectangles until you roll your cursor over them? It's ridiculous.
