I have AT&T Internet. I have had their service techs come out about six times now to fix ongoing issues. I signed up for their 25MB internet service, along with TV. From what I understand based on a couple of the previous techs showing me line errors, my apartment happens to be just a bit too far away from where the service box is located. On the last visit, my Internet service was reduced slightly (I think it's now 19-22MB) and supposedly that is supposed to help resolved the issues I have experienced. Unfortunately, it's done little to resolve the problem.

The issue I have is that I will be browsing the web and then all the sudden I can no longer access any pages. I'll see in the bottom right corner that the network has disconnected and that no connections are available. When service was first installed, I was given a wireless USB adapter. I kept having frequent disconnects, so I asked AT&T to do a hard line connection. It turns out that because I live in an older apartment that has older wiring, doing a CAT5 hard line connection won't work. The next solution was to use powerline adapters. That seemed to resolve the issues with service, but then the disconnects started happening again. What was different this time though is that the connection status in the bottom right corner in Windows 10 would show that there was a connection, but yet I could not get to any websites. All my other devices stay connected on the wireless, but the desktop keeps periodically losing connectivity and I don't know why that's happening.

how is the modem hooking up? is it DSL through phone line, through your Coax, or another method. I personally cant stand DSL PPOE modems as they always seem to give me similar trouble as you describe above.

It sounds like they have a bad setup going into the building to me ..... not much you'd be able to do from your end to fix that sadly.

How much are you paying for service? 25mbit service seems kind of weak for today's internet standards. Are there any other providers in the area?

as an alternate possibility with AT&T any chance they'd set you up a satellite for the connection? A friend of mine has AT&T satellite internet and they get 40 down on it.

I just experienced this disconnect issue again. What is there to look at in the pc that's causing this?

As for running my own cable, I tried using an extra CAT5 cable that I had. There was no internet connection when the cable was connected from the pc to the wall. The old inside wiring is what's preventing me from running a direct line.

I've had no issues with other providers. The fact that AT&T uses a gateway receiver (see AT&T bgm210 picture) to bring in the TV signal means that the internet access is wireless.

Beat internet speed I can get is either 22Mbps with AT&T or 30Mbps with spectrum. It's going to be a long wait for AT&T to bring fiber to my area.
