Similar to the question, of "What's the name of your Wi-fi?"

What's your server name? If you don't have a server, what do you name your PC? Phone? Tablet? Anything Techy?

Just wanted to add a little fun :)

I'm boring ;)

my nas is called nas.local.lan,  I call my pi3 running ntp server for the pool ntp.local.lan.. My pc is called I5-win.local.lan

My devices names area all pretty much what they are, printer is brother.local.lan my router is sg4960.local.lan

You get the idea ;)

Not like named them after greek gods, or p0rn starts or star trek planets, etc.

edit here is good one, I call my unifi controller vm, uc.local.lan :) hehehe oh and the APs are all called uap-ac-pro, uap-ac-lite and 3rd one is called you guessed it uap-ac-lr

Nothing fun.

i have separate naming conventions for desktops and servers, physical and virtual, as well as switches, firewalls, AP’s, etc.

for example, my iMac - DMWS01

My VM Host - SPESXI01

My AD - SVWSAD01

My UniFi Controller - SVLUNIFI01

One of my AP’s - NDWUAP1

RFC1178?

Mine are called:

Router/FIrewall: rome

Access Point: Zurich

Printer: Lyon

ESXi Server: London

Windows VM on Server: Istanbul

Linux VM on Server: Milan

Plex VM on Server: Quebec

(haven't looked at what other VMs I have running right now)

NAS: Berlin

Smart Switch: Shanghai

Desktop: Oslo

etc...

Anyone want to guess the theme...?

Yeah sure rfc1178 ;)  But I just posted their FQDN.. FQDN should always be given for any host vs just its hostname which is not very useful.. Those are not their hostnames in my example, those are their FQDN..

I like the Rome for the router, since all roads lead to Rome :)
