And now the news that Tesla will close most physical stores and primarily sell them online. /sigh ...

I really, really wanted Tesla Dealerships in Michigan. :( Dammit.

Actually, they HAVE them in Michigan; specifically there is one in Troy.  2800 W. Big Beaver Road Space #N-114 Troy, MI 48084.

As I chase down other locations in Michigan, I'll add them as edits to this post.  (Some dealerships will remain - the ones in DC are likely safe, for example.)

If Tesla ever does SUVs, GM Baltimore is also a possibility - though it would certainly sting (for GM, that is) to see Musk swallow the original home of #TeamSuburban (GM Baltimore is also scheduled to shutter, along with Lordstown).

No if, the Model X is an SUV and the upcoming Model Y will be a mid-size crossover based on Model 3 (~80% commonality.)  There's also been talk Tesla and GM could cooperate on a truck.

Once the Tesla Pickup chassis is in production the config options expand greatly.

Hence why Baltimore is an option.  The Suburban is pickup-based, and GM Baltimore IS scheduled to shutter.  A deal with Tesla could, in fact, save it - a win for Tesla, and for (oddly) the USAF and DHS.  (Another way this would be a win - both the USAF and DHS could purchase Models X and Y and basically leverage their existing logistical network - which goes through GM Baltimore - so NOT stupid.)  It wouldn't be the first GSA purchase that saved a GM plant - lest we forget, the Buick GNX buy (of the FBI, no less) got Lordstown off the hook in 1987.  Further, the USAF (and DHS) are drivers of EV purchasing throughout all the government; odd, but true.

Tesla Autonomous Driving Day today, giving info on their new Full Self-Driving system and dedicated neural network processor;

6 billion transistors on the die, 36 trillion operations per second, and the computer has two neural network processors which cross-check each other's work in real time. 21x the performance of their previous unit;  Nvidia's Drive PX2 supercomputer.

The follow-on unit is half-way done, should be ready in 2 years.

Video has a long sizzle reel of Tesla cars before the event, which started late.

Further, in Q2 Tesla set two production records - both units produced and 95,200 delivered vehicles. There is also a large volume of carryover orders, meaning they have a big head start on Q3.
