patseguin Global Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Global Moderator Share Posted September 27, 2018 I know it's a long shot finding an easy solution, but I'm running the RTM build and I've been getting green screens at random times like while I'm type something. Anyone know what the stop code means? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1373782-green-screens-all-of-a-sudden/ Share on other sites
xendrome
"RTM" build... which is is likely not. Probably a cumulative update to go along with it. Either way, it could be your anti-virus causing the issue or a driver from the looks of the error. Hmm, I thought it was pretty much agreed to be rtm build. I don't run antivirus aside from Windows Defender. Thinking I may just live with it till October update and clean install. +Warwagon MVC Posted September 27, 2018 MVC Share Posted September 27, 2018 You may want to try Bluescreen view or whocrashed to see if it can tell you which file crashed the system https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed Upon looking online people are referencing display and wifi drivers causing that error so you may want to look at those too. But do blue screen view or whocrashed first and see if it can narrow down which system file BSOD'ed the system. While bluescreen view requires no installation, i'm more of fan of Whocrashed due to it being easier to read. Are these web based apps where you go to the website or are they actual downloadable apps? I clean installed the new nVIdia driver last night but still get the green screens. It seems totally random too. Like, I was typing a post here on Neowin and the screen went green with the same message. Nothing on my machine has changed in months aside from the Insider updates. I have a new SSD coming in, so maybe it's time for a clean install? George P Global Moderator Posted September 29, 2018 Global Moderator Share Posted September 29, 2018 If you think the issue is with hardware itself and not just the drivers then you could run benchmark tests to stress different parts of the system and see if a crash happens? Like if you think it's the SSD/HDD or if it's RAM etc, run tests for those that push them at 100% and see what happens. If you get a crash in the middle of the test, run it a few more times and see if it happens again, then you'll have a good idea I'd say. In some cases the GSOD/BSOD error codes are kind of generic and just say "something" stopped working but not exactly what. However, I was running low on storage so I bought a 1TB 970 Pro m2. I clean installed from the latest insider iso and haven't had a crash yet. I wonder if I should not reinstall much and clean install the October update... Another program that I love for driver installation is Snappy Driver Installer (SDI) it will analyze your system and find drivers that are newer then you have installed and offer to install them for you, but a word of warning, ignore it's recommendation to install Nvidia drivers, the ones it wants to install are generally beta. adrynalyne
That’s likely a driver error. To add to what xendrome said, only beta builds get green screens of death.
