ring0
i figured this should go in the customizing area more than anywhere else, so here goes... is there any way to create a new folder in the location shown below (ph33r my awesome mspaint skills) ? i'd love to add a "My Movies" folder in there, but i can't find a way to do it. i created the "my downloads" folder by simply renaming the "my pictures" folder and changing it's path/directory, but there aren't any other folders i can alter in that manner. is this possible? if so, can someone help me out? nazgul
Not possible, not in the area you want it. There IS a way to add an icon below the run icon, do a search for "Start Panel Editor" I believe it's called. toddboy2001
Something like this below the Run on the Start Menu. This puts a icon/link to NTFS.org site. http://www.ntfs.org/modules.php?modid=5&action=cat&id=3 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/137987-creating-a-new-start-menu-folder/#findComment-1688319 Share on other sites

kongit
yep yep there is a way. you have to sacrifice a folder. What you do is change a registry setting for a folder that normally shows up to something else. additionally the icon for the folder that changed to will show up instead of the one that was there previously. I think you can show My Pictures on the start menu there so you can change that and not mess anything up already there. so you willing to sacrifice a folder. If so tell me and I will tell you how :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/137987-creating-a-new-start-menu-folder/#findComment-1688374 Share on other sites

Valkyre
Looks as if your using one of Hermik's vectorized wallpapers. I love those. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/137987-creating-a-new-start-menu-folder/#findComment-1688403 Share on other sites
kongit
I'll just go ahead and show you :) to do this: open up regedit by typing regedit in the run dialog and once in regedit go here: once there it should look like this: look at the the entry for my pictures. just change that to whatever folder you want, add the my pictures link to the start menu through the normla windows advanced configuration dialogue, then restart your computer. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/137987-creating-a-new-start-menu-folder/#findComment-1688463 Share on other sites
nazgul
Hmm... tried your tip Crazy Travis, and for some reason I couldn't get it to work... changed it in the registry, but when I enable it on the start menu, it continues to show the My Pictures folder  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/137987-creating-a-new-start-menu-folder/#findComment-1688905 Share on other sites
