British Airways flight mistakenly lands in Scotland instead of Germany

A British Airways flight headed to Germany mistakenly landed in Scotland instead on Monday.

According to the airline, a German company that had chartered the plane, WDL Aviation, had submitted the wrong route to air traffic controllers.

"We are working with WDL Aviation, who operated this flight on behalf of British Airways, to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed," British Airways said in a statement to The Hill. "We have apologized to customers for this interruption to their journey, and will deal with them all individually."

The flight that was initially routed to Düsseldorf landed in Edinburgh instead, before taking off again and going to Germany. Passengers on the plane only realized the mistake when the cabin crew announced they had landed in Edinburgh, according to the BBC.

London City Airport apologized for the accident on Twitter.

"London City Airport ✔ @LondonCityAir

As pleasant as Edinburgh is this time of year, we're sorry that passengers travelling to Dusseldorf on BA3271, operated by WDL Aviation, initially landed in the Scottish capital, rather than their intended destination," they wrote. "This was due to an incorrect flight plan submitted by WDL."

An incorrect flight plan, I really think that is a CYA, not the real reason, a flight plan would list the destination as well as where the flight originated from, and it should've been reviewed before hand, I mean Düsseldorf and Edinburgh are so close to each other, right? it looks to be about a 2 hour flight between the two, how do you mess up that bad?! :D
