I think the Borg ship shouldn't have been crashed in the first place. It's been well established that one Borg ship is a colossal power against any races fleet of starships. The Artifact is a half broken ship so that gives the writers leeway to gimp the power level as they see fit. It's still kind of silly that the flower things could take down the Artifact but I digress. It could have been left in orbit and the story doesn't play out much different. The Romulans show up. The cube is just powerful enough to buy time. The Romulans cause enough damage to the cube to result in crashing to the planet. Same end result without having to use a deus ex machina device.

Spoiler

Don’t forget that the orchids dampens power so that could have aided in bringing the cube down.  I don’t know if the cube needed Seven connected in order to defend itself or it’s “sentient” by itself.

That last episode was heartbreaking. Seeing DATA again for the last time and seeing him die...again. That was tough.

I was getting right into the feels of it all.... when they brought Picard back to life... What a complete waste of three very emotional scenes.

We know there's a season 2.  They should have ended season 1 with a dead Picard and bring him back in S2. Also, Riker should have stuck around for his old captain's death scene.  Him leaving like that was just dumb, and missed a huge opportunity as at least with him, we FEEL the emotional connection whereas with this new crew, we barely know them and aren't exactly attached to them.

Also, what's with Rafi and Seven suddenly getting all hand holdy? I don't mind if they have a relationship or anything, but where the hell in the last 10 episodes did THAT come from?!

Yes the episode seemed “hurried” and yes I agree that they should have left Picard dead as a cliffhanger and then bring him back to life in Season 2. That would have made things more interesting. Also, I was expecting The Enterprise with Ryker or Worf in command to show up. What a let down. And yes, I do agree with you on the Seven and Raffi scene. Like WTF?? They never spent time with each other before, so what was this? Love at first sight? Also, Seven was in various relationships with men when she was in Voyager. She was never known to be a lesbian so where did that come from?

I still have my hopes high to see Q in Season 2, especially since Guinan will be there, and her and Q have quite a rivalry. Let’s hope Season 2 is better. Picard is now a synthetic. Very interesting. I am wondering how all this is going to tie up with Discovery. Remember those robotics things that came out of the worm hole when Goshi (or whatever her name was) sent the signal? Aren’t those the same tentacle things that came out of that probe that attacked the shuttle craft Pike was in on Discovery?

So I just marathoned the show. Freakin' loved it.

As always, there were plot holes and so forth, but I did a pretty good job of looking past them.

I agree, Riker should have showed up with a (willingly) commandeered Enterprise, and should

have been able to beam down and be with Picard in his "final" moments.

I did, however, see the golem coming. As soon as the scientist chick didn't use the  "I wish"

device to manifest a cure for him on the ship, the golem was the only other "introduced"

solution to the problem.

The not-introduced-during-the-season solution I was kinda hoping for was to have

Q show up and tell Picard he wasn't done yet just because he's so much fun to watch

as an old man still trying to save the galaxy. Or, as the wife mentioned, his Son to do it.

They could have used the Borg ship as fodder against the Romulans instead of inserting a macguffin to pull off a duplicating ship illusion. It was there the whole time and the writers overlooked it.

The borg ship was pretty out of shape to start, large part of it was of no use and they never got anywhere with repairs in a previous episode.  Plus crashing it on the planet probably knocked out even more parts of it.  I doubt it could've taken on 200+ warbirds before they rained fire down on it and wiped it out.  Sure the Borg are powerful but how long have the Romulans and everyone else had access to that cube and it's tech?  I think by this time we've become pretty good at taking the Borg on, not like back at the start in TNG.

I feel that there's clearly more Borg stuff to happen.  The XB who kept looking at JL and calling him Locutus.  That plot point went nowhere, and I don't feel that that sort of thing was going to be a loose end.

That plot point could very well be the basis for season 2.  They dangled the idea that XBs have no rights or place and aren't treated as people.   It's one more thing for them to fight for in season 2.   We'll have to wait and see what they do next.

Q is the best part of TNG, IMO.  I'm interested in this 2nd season more than the first season now.

Who wants to bet Q turns Picard back into a human again as a "reward" for fixing the timeline?

Also, how's Picard going to fix the timeline anyway?  Shoot Alex Kurtzman? :p

People are so negative towards Discovery and Picard is not even funny. Both shows have their pros and cons. I for one like them both. I was glad to see complete closure on DATA because the way they handled that on Nemesis was as bad as Kirk's death in Generations. As far as Picard Season 2 goes, if you guys remember on STNG's very last episode, "All Good Things Part 2", Q told Picard something and Picard said: "Q, what is it you are trying to tell me?" and then as he began to get closer to Picard's ear to whisper it to him, he backed away and said: "You'll find out. See you out there."

Here you go:

There's a good reason for the negativity... They're utter garbage and absolutely NOT what Trek is meant to be.  Everything they've done flies completely in the face of what Gene created Trek to be, and not one of the writers appears to have even watched Trek before...

  • Facepalm 1

There's a argument to be made that TNG got good after Gene passed away and the writers were freed from under his control.   Later seasons of TNG got away from Genes original guidelines, and every Trek after has.

But it's not just the guidelines... Trek is supposed to be set in a future where humans have gotten rid of their petty differences, backstabbing, dramatics and general childishness and now modern writers have brought all that crap back.  Humans in Trek are supposed to be BETTER than they are now, and in modern Trek they're just as big a bunch of utter jerks as real life humans are...

The hope for a brighter future has gone.

In DS9, Sisko did a few dark things such as the whole getting the Romulans into the Dominion war episode.... But that story wasn't about the dark things he did, it was about the personal anguish it caused him to do something that was necessary if the Federation were to survive.  Now? We have some upstart first officer mutinying and ending up starting a war with an alien species and getting her captain and friend killed in the process because.... Why?  Oh yeah... She didn't TRUST the Klingons...  Wow.

ya that looks awful, I wish the crowd making star trek at the moment would ###### off

I'm getting sick-and-tired of this timeline changing crap.  It's like they don't know what to do so let screw with the timeline again or bring back the borg.  It looks like we're getting double whammy with both this season.  Also, along with these full season story arcs gotta go.  I can't wait for episodic stories again in Strange New World.

The only reason they are doing this timeline thing is because its cheaper/easier to make things with current available in this time things and places. To much CGI, building of sets to do otherwise. Besides if anything taught us about time travel is you can't change the future by going to the past...Avengers proved this and made clear sense.

I may watch them sure, but only thru a free trial period binge them or find them else where.

Time travel stories are a sure sign that the writers don't have a clue what to do with it.

It just shows that these writers don't understand the whole concept of Star Trek. It's about exploring interesting concepts and conundrums that force an evaluation of character, morals, ethics and perspective. Picard Season 1 did none of that.
