+Warwagon MVC Posted July 3, 2019 MVC Share Posted July 3, 2019 I keep thinking this has to be some kind of Joke, but multiple sources are reporting on it Quote Nike reportedly cancelled a patriotic shoe design for Independence Day with a Betsy Ross flag because former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick objected to the symbol, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Air Max 1 USA shoe was scheduled to sell ahead of the Fourth of July celebration on Wednesday. Kaepernick, who is known for originating the kneeling protest against the national anthem during NFL games, reportedly told the company that the flag, with 13 stars, was a symbol for slavery that offended many. "Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured the old version of the American flag," a spokeswoman for the company said. Images of the shoe can still be found on social media: Quote https://finance.yahoo.com/news/happened-stock-market-today-193249160.html

Jim K Global Moderator Posted July 3, 2019 Global Moderator Share Posted July 3, 2019 President Obama's second inauguration. Symbol for slavery ... /sigh. Really? Should we boycott the White House which was built (and rebuilt after the War of 1812) in part by slaves (and free African-Americans). The White House where 7 Presidents had slaves working? Anyway ... just saying that this is a slippery slope where just about everything pre-1865 could be interpreted as a "symbol for slavery." This flag was our first official flag ... the first flag for a new nation. I do not really care about the shoes, Nike or Colin ... but telling "the company that the flag, with 13 stars, was a symbol for slavery that offended many" ... he can go fly a kite. margrave
I can't stand Colin Kaepernick. He's just upset he was adopted. Instead of being mad at the world for being adopted, and that his bio-parents gave him up he needs to just stop. He already made himself into a player that no one will touch, and now he attacks shoes. Because why not. There's no other way to get his name in the press now. Maybe he should just hunt down those bio-parents and ruin their lives and leave everyone else alone. Steve Jobs was adopted, and he didn't go mad like this. And for being just push-over wusses I will no longer buy Nike anything. Cowards. Nogib, wakjak, rpsgc and 5 others 4 3 1 Share

Peresvet
"This isn’t about sneakers, but about people who want ‘no USA at all’ In just a few short years, the woke crusade against “hate” in the US has gone from demanding the removal of Confederate flags and monuments to targeting George Washington, the national anthem and now even the American flag. Seen in isolation, the decision by Nike to scrap their sneaker design featuring the original flag of the 13 colonies that declared independence from the British crown in 1776 – reportedly at the urging of ex-football player turned social justice commissar Colin Kaepernick – seems like a tempest in a teapot. Seen from another perspective, though, it’s an alarming example of a trend that threatens to unravel the few remaining threads that keep America together. ... So if the pledge is oppression, the flag is racist, George Washington is racist, Betsy Ross didn’t exist, the anthem is racist, “God Bless America” is racist by association… where does that leave the US? Is it at least the “greatest country in the world” as its politicians – of both parties – so often declare? Actually, no, according to the New York Times. It’s a myth “at best outdated and at worst, wildly inaccurate,” says the nation’s paper of record in an opinion video released on the eve of July 4 celebrations. So as you see, this is about more than just sneakers – or even vapid virtue-signaling. This is about people who insist on being the arbiters of morality, and “canceling” anyone who dares to think otherwise; who hate the Bad Orange Man so much that they are willing to destroy the country he presides over; who chant “no fascist USA” and “no USA at all” – but then blame Russia for “sowing discord,” in order to cover up their tracks. Happy birthday, America, wherever you are." https://www.rt.com/op-ed/463326-nike-flag-anthem-racist/ SecretAgentMan, Nogib, rpsgc and 2 others 1 4 Share
techbeck
Kap, and others, really need to do some reading and stop associating everything with that time period as offensive or anything to do with slavery. Seems to me that Kap just wanted to be in the spotlight again. He should just go retire someplace with all that money he got for suing the NFL. Nike pulled the shoes for the potential it could offend someone. AZ Gov also cut Nike's tax breaks. These shoes are also going for 1k - 2k online. Circaflex
I'm sure Kaepernick will at some time address the child labor that produce his Nike products and makes him the big bucks. Category: Miscellaneous Question: Is it permissible to wear an item of clothing that looks like the United States flag? Answer: Unless an article of clothing is made from an actual United States flag, there is NO breach of flag etiquette whatsoever. People are simply expressing their patriotism and love of country by wearing an article of clothing that happens to be red, white, and blue with stars and stripes. There is nothing illegal about the wearing or use of these items. DConnell 1 Share
