How do I install directx 8.0 over 8.1

You should confirm with Microsoft about this problem... Tell them where you get that software... and then uninstall DirectX... go to registry... clean up what you think look messy and install DirectX 8... if it's still doesn't work... again, call up Microsoft... tell them where you get it from... and then format the computer and re-install the OS...

get the 8.0a from microsoft, right click it and extract it to a dir.

this is for win2k but just look around in the windows dir if you use win9x including winXP.

all the .PNG files go into winntsystem32directxdinput

the .exe and .dll files go into winntsystem32

the .sys files go winntsystem32drivers AND winntsystem32dllcache

the .ini files go into winntsystem32directxdinput

It worked for my friend who got that very msg 8)

If you can't find the dirs just search for where windows has them then copy it that way.

IT's faster if you make a .bat file.

copy *.extenion x:dir
