Incorrect. I own a 2023 Hyundai. Still has a key. Still has access to unlock the door underneath a hidden piece on the handle. Try. AGAIN.

I can keep going... but yeah. You're dead wrong.

Limited sample set, and many automakers are getting rid of metal keys & locks because not having them costs less. Many drivers also like them.

This going full keyless did start with Tesla Model 3, but like screens on the dashboard it has spread and is continuing to spread.

I literally just showed you MOST Major car manufacturers... in 2024... STILL using keys and locks... are you being STUPID on purpose or can you literally NEVER admit to being wrong? It's one or the other. Which is it. ARe you stupid or can't admit to being wrong?

Name them and give examples. Don’t hold back, you said most up above.

That's literally Tesla's position back 5 years ago at least. Probably still is today tbh

Similar procedure to what I was describing but it's been changed and those batteries are no longer lead acid but lithium ion - longer life. Instruction manuals do matter.

Cybertruck version

Again. No other vehicle on the planet needs a mechanics course to open the door. Try again. Without a Tesla.

Guess you missed the part where many cars are moving to keyless entry and push button starting.

My car (Kia Niro) has keyless entry and pushbutton starting, but it also still has a manual method of entry and proper handle that doesn't need power to open.  It doesn't get frozen over, either... Having one doesn't preclude the other, except when designed by people who don't care about safety.

Rivian does, but that doesn't preclude the fact that 99.9% of vehicles out there, even if new, have manual door releases because safety. Something @DocM fails to take into consideration.

Aside from the Rivian (stupid of them also)...which cars are completely keyless?  The F-150 lightening and Hyundai Ioniq both still have a physical key (just a spot check).

Will say...and this applies to all car manufactures (re: touchscreens) ... Stop It.  No reason to hide every single damn thing behind a touchscreen (for example climate control).  It is getting ridiculous ... isn't for the betterment of the driver but just a cost cutting measure by the manufactures.

Well, until you need to smash out glass to rescue your grandchild instead of being able to use a physical key (which you've almost forgotten about but still have).

Also..."many" ... lolz

Honest question Doc, but have you ever just accepted that you are incorrect about something? I swear, the last 10+ years on Neowin, I have never seen you just admit "yup, youre right I was wrong on that one." Nope, instead you dig yourself into hole after hole and just look like a complete imbecile. Talk about ego problem.

The first thing I would do is ask why they didn't read their manual.

What if they did and in a panic forgot the complex steps to open the ###### door?

I don’t know about you but I leave the car manual in the car which wouldn’t help in this situation.  Next, the time it takes to search for the URL for the manual and then search for the specific section while under panic would be a nightmare.

IMHO at least one car door should be required to have a key to unlock.

Hopefully that person has suddenly developed a sense of shame and is too embarrassed to show his/her face.

I know. Wishful thinking. The deliberate mistruths and distortions in defense of all things Elon Musk will no doubt resume shortly.

In the other recall, a trim piece along the truck bed can come loose and fly off, creating a hazard for other motorists.

Tesla says in documents that the trim piece is installed with adhesive, and that may not have been done properly at the factory.

Oh **** off. Next you're going to tell me that the windshield wiper will just stop working. Impossible. This truck is the best designed truck ever created....

Remember Tesla Cybertruck's oversized windshield wiper? The one that appears too large to exist, at least not without malfunctioning in some way? Well, it turns out that it is.

Tesla just issued a recall for over 11,000 Cybertrucks over a windshield wiper issue. The recall includes all model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from Nov. 13, 2023, to June 6, 2024, which is pretty much all of them given that the Cybertruck deliveries started in Nov. 2023.

"On affected vehicles, the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component," the recall report says. "A non-functioning windshield wiper may reduce visibility in certain operating conditions, which may increase the risk of a collision."

The report also said that Tesla is not aware of any collisions, injuries, or deaths relating to the issue.

For Cybertruck owners, this means that they'll have to take their car to a Tesla service center and get the windshield wiper motor replaced.

The Cybertruck's oversized windshield gained notoriety even before the car itself launched with spy shots revealing just how oddly huge it is (compared to any other car's wiper). Tesla CEO Elon Musk also said that the wiper is a big trouble for the car's development, noting that there's "no easy solution" for it.
