Looking for a cheap, but decent AP for brother

Recommended Posts

As topic states, looking for a decent but yet fairly cheap AP for brother. His setup is all in basement and wireless connection works pretty good through out house but has none to very sporadic wireless connection in attached garage, which actually when just looking at it, you'd think wireless should be in more direct line to garage.

Was looking at this one, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LFSDZCU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?SubscriptionId=AKIAJO7E5OLQ67NVPFZA&ascsubtag=720129312-2-&tag=shopperz_origin2-20&th=1 and it seems fairly reasonable.

Anyone have any other suggestions or does anyone use the one I pointed to?

Thank you

ANY wireless router is going to be great as an AP. I even have some old Linksys at home from someone here. (think it was SC302, iirc) So any cheap recent one that can do the latest wireless signals, and can set up as AP, should be fine.

I have my old ASUS RT-N66R set as an AP in the middle of the house. So we get good wireless throughout the house.

Like I said, yeah. Even get one off craigslist, and you'll get it quicker.

I was going to do that, but gave my old router away a while ago.  Hadn't really thought of Ebay.  Not much into buying used stuff, if something new isn't ridiculously priced.

Thanks for replies :)

Hello,

One thing you may wish to do is purchase a router which can run firmware from a third-party source such as DD-WRT.  This ensures the device can regularly be flashed with updated firmware to fix security issues long after the original manufacturer has ceased supporting it.
