Starlink V1.0 Launch #4

60 StarLink v1.0 commsats

Date: February 15, 2020
Time: 1046 Eastern (1546 UTC)

Booster: 1056.4 (CRS-17 & 18, Kacific-1)
Booster recovery: ASDS Of Course I Still Love You
Fairing recovery: Ms. Tree and Ms. Chief

What was that about booster reuse never paying for itself?

Also,

Bloomberg reports StarLink will be spun off in an IPO. May be a while, likely after the v1.0 LEO constellation is deployed.

Don't expect to hear much about DarkSat until it arrives at its 550km operational altitude, which may be several more weeks.  Measurements between 340km and 550km are only applicable to the transition periods up/down - a tiny part of their 5-year mission.

Wondering if it didn't make a soft "landing" on the water?  Didn't see a "boom" or fragments.

Of course it will still be ruined (though if in one piece they can probably scavenge parts)... anyway, looking forward to hearing what exactly happened.

Yep I noticed the spray/smoke off to the side.

If the engine fired to make that soft of a landing you've got to assume something like a landing leg didn't deploy? Although I thought I heard a call out to say they had.

I'm thinking that the Falcon thought the drone ship was below it ... for whatever reason.  I think I heard them call out the landing legs had deployed.  Pure assumption though.

Yep, I'm certain I head the landing legs deployed call out.

...or it could have been something similar to CRS-16 where it had a problem and aborted the landing.  Only time will tell ... I'm sure Elon/SpaceX will give an explanation soon.

it was far enough away to me that I thought it had detected an issue and not done the dog leg kick back towards the ship to save the OCISLY. This was it's 4th flight if i remember rightly?
