IsItPluggedIn
Did they get any feedback on the new "darkening" they deployed during the last batch? Will they be deploying more/different solutions this time? It would be good to have any other news after the launch. DocM
Don't expect to hear much about DarkSat until it arrives at its 550km operational altitude, which may be several more weeks. Measurements between 340km and 550km are only applicable to the transition periods up/down - a tiny part of their 5-year mission. Skiver Veteran Posted February 17, 2020 Veteran Share Posted February 17, 2020 Falcon 9 didn't make the landing Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1391810-starlink-v10-launch-4/#findComment-598522421 Share on other sites
Jim K Global Moderator Posted February 17, 2020 Global Moderator Share Posted February 17, 2020 Wondering if it didn't make a soft "landing" on the water? Didn't see a "boom" or fragments. Of course it will still be ruined (though if in one piece they can probably scavenge parts)... anyway, looking forward to hearing what exactly happened. Skiver Veteran Posted February 17, 2020 Veteran Share Posted February 17, 2020 Yep I noticed the spray/smoke off to the side. If the engine fired to make that soft of a landing you've got to assume something like a landing leg didn't deploy? Although I thought I heard a call out to say they had. I'm thinking that the Falcon thought the drone ship was below it ... for whatever reason. I think I heard them call out the landing legs had deployed. Pure assumption though. Jim K Global Moderator Posted February 17, 2020 Global Moderator Share Posted February 17, 2020 ...or it could have been something similar to CRS-16 where it had a problem and aborted the landing. Only time will tell ... I'm sure Elon/SpaceX will give an explanation soon. I'm sure Elon/SpaceX will give an explanation soon. it was far enough away to me that I thought it had detected an issue and not done the dog leg kick back towards the ship to save the OCISLY. This was it's 4th flight if i remember rightly? Jim K Global Moderator Posted February 17, 2020 Global Moderator Share Posted February 17, 2020 Yea, 4th flight. You're probably correct...problem detected and it didn't "dogleg kick" back to OCISLY.
