techbeck
So, currently I have about a 20yr old Sony surround sound system. Still works great but looking for something newer, possibly. What I have is, not exact model but close enough, https://www.crutchfield.com/S-KDH3TK6fNSc/p_158HDX275/Sony-DAV-HDX275.html So looking for an all in one and was looking for recommendations. Really do not care about the DISC changer or it to have a DISC drive at all as I play everything through my xbox. Need to be able to play anything on my TV through the new system. Not looking to spend a bunch of money. I think I spent $400 for my current system about 20yrs ago or so. Recommendations? Thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1392848-surround-sound-system/ Share on other sites
Brandon H Supervisor Posted March 6, 2020 Supervisor Share Posted March 6, 2020 what features are you looking for? optical audio, digital audio, or classic RCA? 5.1 or 7.1 surround? main question, do you want it to support HDMI-CEC so you can control it with your TV remote? I could suggest a few options but this is the main thing that changes what I will suggest Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1392848-surround-sound-system/#findComment-598527594 Share on other sites

Does not need to have a disc drive. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1392848-surround-sound-system/#findComment-598527596 Share on other sites
Brandon H Supervisor Posted March 6, 2020 Supervisor Share Posted March 6, 2020 just looked at your link. My Aunt/Uncle have that exact Sony model in their house lol My main recommendation would by the Logitech Z906 surround sound speaker set. I have this one in my living room and it does not disappoint. it runs $400 full price but amazon has them for $278 right now https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Surround-Sound-Speaker-System/dp/B004M18O60/ looking around it doesn't seem like too may do full surround sound systems anymore; most OEMs seem to have moved to sound bars only. I did find a couple others looking on Amazon though funny thing is the Z906 is still the top most popular listing on Amazon . my search: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=5.1+surround+sound+system Here's an interesting one by Vizio. Soundbar + sub-woofer + 2 rear speakers for 5.1 https://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-SB3651-E6C-Manufacturer-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07D7SLWRZ/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1392848-surround-sound-system/#findComment-598527599 Share on other sites
trag3dy
The logitech's are probably your best bet. I think if you go for a more powerful system you'll start to want a receiver of some kind. techbeck
I can always use my same speakers. They use speaker wire. Nothing wrong with the speakers. Sulphy
I have the LG BH9540 for my lounge, 9.1 surround, and it is very impressive... I also have the Logitech Z906 that i use on my office for sound, and they really are pretty decent as well! It works fine right now but Alexa will only turn on my TV and XBOX and the sound needs to be manually turned on. I don't even plug in the HDMI cable for the Sony system since I do not use the disc drives, just surround sound. I can also run new speaker wire to a different box/receiver and use my same speakers as they work just fine. With HDMI-CEC when your TV is turned on it can turn on the sound system as well as a reaction. I have a setup like that in my bedroom. I have a Sony TV with a Nvidia Shield TV and have a Samsung 5.1 surround sound blueray player hooked up to my TV with optical audio and a HDMI cable plugged into the CEC supported HDMI port on my TV. I can tell Alexa to turn on the bedroom TV which takes the Nvidia Shield out of sleep which in turn triggers the TV to turn on via CEC which in turn the TV tells the sound system to turn on also through CEC. Jim K Global Moderator Posted March 6, 2020 Global Moderator Share Posted March 6, 2020 How about just a receiver? Denon/Marantz, Yamaha, Sony, etc., have receivers with Alexa ... even in their budget range 300-500. Brandon H Supervisor Posted March 6, 2020 Supervisor Share Posted March 6, 2020 I'm not sure if your TV supports HDMI Arc so I'm not going to recommend any of those. Here's a couple other suggestions though; you're really only going to get HDMI-CEC support with blueray player combos I'm pretty sure so here's a few This is the newer model of the system I have in my bedroom that supports what you're looking for like I mentioned in my last post https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HT-J5500W-Channel-1000-Watt-Blu-Ray/dp/B00UCXJD8A/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=HT-J5500W&qid=1583515567&sr=8-1 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1392848-surround-sound-system/#findComment-598527619 Share on other sites
