StrikedOut
Hi. I recently switched my Spiceworks helpdesk from a Windows install to their Linux install, it is downloaded as an OVA file which I converted for use in Hyper-V. It works fine and is raising the tickets as it should but it will not respond to my PC until I have pinged my PC from the Ubuntu server, once I do this, it is fine. I can ping both the Linux VM and my PC from other machines and I can ping all other devices from my PC with no issue. I noticed that the Linux VM doesnt seem to be updating the arp table on my PC yet it is there in my laptops table. Any thoughts on why I am unable to ping the Linux VM from my PC and how to resolve? At this point I am not convinced where the issue lies, witht he Linux box or my PC, both work perfectly except for this issue. Thansk.
+BudMan MVC Posted May 8, 2020 MVC Share Posted May 8, 2020 So I would sniff (wireshark would work) on your pc... Do you see the arp go out? Do you not get a response? If you see the arp go out but no response, sniff on your linux box.. Does it not see the arp? Does it see it an not answer? Does it answer but your PC not seeing it. With this info figure out where the arp is failing. Had to guess something up with your VM setup.. You say your not seeing anything in your arp table in the pc until your linux box pings your pc , that kind of rules out say a dupe IP issue. As hack/work around you could always set a static arp on your PC for this linux IP and mac.. example... Here you can see my pc doesn't not have arp entry for 9.11 Interface: 192.168.9.100 --- 0xd Internet Address Physical Address Type 192.168.9.10 00-11-32-7b-29-7d dynamic 192.168.9.253 00-08-a2-0c-e6-24 dynamic 192.168.9.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static 224.0.0.22 01-00-5e-00-00-16 static 224.0.0.251 01-00-5e-00-00-fb static 239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static I can then ping 9.11 and you see the arp go out.. And get a response... Once it got back answer from arp, it can send the ping. And now its in the arp table.
