Some SSD Questions For Future Upgrades

Recommended Posts

Hello All

Currently using an Samsung 860 EVO boot Drive SSD, and Western Digital Black 1TB storage drive,  Plan for Christmas is to purchase first M.2 1tb drive for Desktop, and use that for boot/1 Game like currently setup,  Then install more games on the Samsung 860 Evo SSD,   and Possibly Western Digital Black 1TB as well.

Not sure if i got anymore serial ata power plugs for adding a 1TB Serial ATA SSD or not,  or i'd do that as well, and have more room for future games.    Power Supply is a EVGA G3 650 Watt,  Case is Thermaltake V200 RGB Case, Put Together by local PC shop

I'd rather get a 500-512GB M.2 card. Make sure you get the NVME varient. And your board supports it. NVME uses PCI-E, not SATA.

And use that saved money for a 3TB HDD. Go with WD Black or Gold. Store all your games on there.

You should have 4-6 SATA portals on your montherboard. You should be fine.

Ohhh Not a bad idea there at all.   it does have 6 Sata ports, no worries there lol.     and definitely would go with a WD Black 3TB

And Definitely would get the Nvme variant for sure

I have a SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 500GB NVME. Swapped it off NewEgg when they had a sale on it. Got it for like $75.

(I do have a 256GB drive too, but isn't connected, atm)

Yeah i should've gotten a 500gb Serial ata one when i upgraded to this Samsung 250GB from Western Digital Blue 250gb last Christmas lol,  but dummy me selected another 250gb one for some strange reason,  but now that Desktop has M.2 slot, gonna use that soon as possible,  and then later on eventually upgrade Laptops 128gb M.2 SSD lol, if i can ever get the bottom cover off, may have stripped the one screw, yet my screwdriver worked fine for all other screws, except #10 lol

You two should really define what you mean when referring to m.2. Its just a connector type/form factor.

In of itself, if the m.2 drive is mSata, it is not an advantage over the 860 evo aside from space savings. You have to go PCIE/NVME for a performance difference.

Yes i'm going PCIE/NVME style M.2 drive, as the slot supports that option,  Which should be nice performance lift, not that Machine is slow at all with the 860 Evo, just do wanna use the PCIe/NVME M.2 slot
