Rush Limbaugh, conservative talk radio pioneer, dead at 70

Recommended Posts

Rush Limbaugh, the monumentally influential media icon who transformed talk radio and politics in his decades behind the microphone, helping shape the modern-day Republican Party, died Wednesday morning at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer, his family announced.

Limbaugh's wife, Kathryn, made the announcement on his radio show. "Losing a loved one is terribly difficult, even more so when that loved one is larger than life," she said. Rush will forever be the greatest of all time."

The radio icon learned he had Stage IV lung cancer in January 2020 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Trump at the State of the Union address days later. First lady Melania Trump then presented America’s highest civilian honor to Limbaugh in an emotional moment on the heels of his devastating cancer diagnosis.

Move to diff forum if need be.  Didnt see I was on general.

What he did for the broadcast industry in general will be completely sidelined by those cheering his death.  Personally, I never liked him or his show but having worked for nearly a decade in commercial radio myself, I can 't help but remember how he resurrected AM radio and the contributions he made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society over the years. You can hate the man for his beliefs (and I'm sure the cheering will start any post now) but at least be respectful.

Well... I mean... if your contribution to society is overshadowed by the amount of racist, bigoted comments spewed over your entire career then that's on you. Maybe don't do the negative stuff and the positive stuff will be spoken about instead? Just a thought.

Also respect is earned. No one like that deserves respect.

Clearly it doesn't work that way in politics...  If you can't see past your ideology differences and still cheer for a death, then you're simply a terrible person...  Just because he was a conservative doesn't mean he's a racist. Get over yourself...

Except of course, he was. It's on the books, it's on transcripts. There's no denying it. He was a racist. He was a bigot. Your defense of the man either means you haven't ever listened to him, and you don't know what you're talking about... or you agree with his viewpoints and are "blinded". Pick one.

Waiting for the "it was taken out of context, or that's not what he really meant, or he was joking," etc....

It's always eye opening when someone on the right automatically appends the "conservative" attribute to things like this, when it was never, ever brought up by the original poster/quote. Talk about a complex.

It is not like nobody through the years called him a racist.

it's almost like they are overly sensitive about it for some reason. LOL

Triggered much?

Personally, I never cheer for anyone who dies or wish death on anyone.  I just don't have or allow that much hate and anger in my life.  I always believe you get in life what you put out and karma will get you in the end good or bad.

The fact was LImbaugh was a sorry excuse for a human being. Period. End of story. That has nothing to even do with his politics as there are totally fine conservatives. Decent people will have nice things said about them when they die.  Sorry he wasn't and choose to live his life with "hate and anger".

Like I said, people will get what they put out in life. In this case, cancer and not a lot of kind words. I disagree with a lot of what people say or do but won't put out the same kind of things that I disagree with.  But that is me and how I choose to handle things. To each their own.

It makes sense someone like Trump looked up to him, he gave him the medal of freedom probably for all his racist attacks on Obama.

Ummmm I have a really nice life and get a lot out of it but thanks for your concern. I also always have kind words for people everyday.  In this case, Limbaugh was nothing but a POS and there is nothing wrong with saying that.  HE SHOULD HAVE LIVED A BETTER LIFE.
