Samsung Odyssey G7 and font smoothing

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a Samsung Odyssey G7 monitor and I've been loving it. What I find odd is that when I plugged it in and started using, it was using the native resolution and everything, but all the fonts on screen looked jagged like font smoothing was turned off. Really looked pretty bad. I looked around the Windows 10 settings because I haven't had to look at font smoothing for a long time. I couldn't really figure anything out. I switched Windows to HDR mode and then the quality got better obviously, but all the fonts got smoothed like they should. Is this some kind of quirk when you use an HDR monitor with HDR not enabled? I'm assuming there's no reason to not run Windows in HDR mode anyways though...

Make sure you don’t have sharpness jacked up too high. Also, game modes typically look like garbage for text. Windows HDR mode is terrible for general use because it makes everything look washed out.

Too highs a setting for response time will also cause issues outside of games.

This might be better answered in Windows OS section..

I doubt this is a hardware issue..

Hmm yeah maybe you're right. I'll move it.
