CastletonSnob
If you don't feel like building your own computer and would rather get a prebuilt, what are the best major computer brands? The worst? hellowalkman 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1406927-bestworst-computer-brands/ Share on other sites
Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted April 13, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted April 13, 2021 Totally depends on what you need, bro. Are you just going to use it for e-mail and web? Are you a Gamer? Or a YTer, or streamer? You edit your own videos? Lot goes into a computer, rather than just saying "what is the best?" Best to me may not be bvest for you. Use PCPartPicker. Or if you don't want to build your own, go to main sites, Dell, Lenovo, HP. See what you like. Good Bot, Bad Bot
Are we taking about quality/reliability? That can be hit or miss from one model to the next from the same manufacturer. In general stay away from the no name brands and stick with Asus, Dell, HP, and MSI. Personally, I wouldn't get a PC from a Chinese company. Customer service and support? That I can't speak to as haven't needed to call customer or technical support for a PC in over 20 years. Never thought of that.. But yeah.. 56 minutes ago, CastletonSnob said: I just want a computer to browse the internet and watch streams. A Raspberry Pi can do that, heh. You aren't looking for a high-end desktop. Go to BestBuy, MicroCenter, etc. (even Walmart's PCs arent half bad) I assume thewy would have lower systems than the big boys. goretsky Supervisor Posted April 16, 2021 Supervisor Share Posted April 16, 2021 Hello, I do not think you can go wrong with getting a computer from one of the major tier-one manufacturers such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard or Lenovo. What I do recommend, though, is purchasing a business model, as opposed to from one of their product lines expressly for consumers. Then, get an extended warranty that covers it for whatever period you intend to use it for (or as much of that as possible), possibly with on-site service of some kind. That way, you should be able to minimize the amount of time you have to spend working on it yourself (which seems to be a concern, if I am reading things correctly). Try and get something that can decode AV1 as a lot of videos these days use AV1. For example the Intel Xe DG1 graphics card. I know ASUS is making one but no idea where you can find them. https://www.neowin.net/news/intels-iris-xe-discrete-desktop-graphics-card-is-finally-here/ Also AFAIK Rocket Lake also has AV1 decoding so try a PC with Rocket Lake. Like these: https://www.neowin.net/news/msi-updates-its-desktop-lineup-with-intel-11th-gen-processors/ https://www.neowin.net/news/dell-refreshes-alienware-aurora-and-xps-desktop-with-11th-gen-processors/ For a cheap computer, don't think brand will matter too much.
