A cow on the loose in a residential street was hit and killed using a police van after officers struggled to bring it under control.

The cow, which is understood to have escaped from a nearby farm, was spotted wandering around roads in Woodley, Berkshire, on Thursday evening.

A police vehicle was later filmed colliding with the animal.

Thames Valley Police said the cow had charged and injured a woman and one of its officers.

A witness told the BBC police hit the cow with a vehicle four times and were "clearly trying to kill it".

A force spokesman said the measures it took were necessary to protect the public.

The police vehicle was used to prevent the cow from charging towards other members of the public and, after all options were ruled out, the cow was "humanely euthanised".

Not sure how "humanely" can be used when it was rammed four times by a vehicle 😒

It should have been tranquilised, and moooved properly by professionals, ideally back to the farmers property.

Moooved ;)

But yeah. Ramming with a car 4 times. Wow

The police in Europe generally don't shoot first and ask questions later 😛

It's the UK, do they even have guns?

Of course not, we just ask serious criminals politely to stop...

Honestly  🤦‍♂️

to be honest, I've heard a ton of times that "UK street patrol police aren't armed" never knew if it was true or not

That is actually interesting to read, though my question was more along the lines of a joke, but still it is very interesting to see the difference between the US police force and the UK's police force, the US could stand to learn allot from the UK...

Standard patrols are unarmed except for pepper spray and stick.  However all forces have armed response units that can be there usually within minutes and almost all communities have animal control officers who SHOULD have been called to deal with this animal.

Those cops should be remooooved from duty!
