Hi,

For the past few weeks I have been getting blue screens of death on my laptop mainly with these 2 errors

1. The rules engine reported a failed VL activation attempt 0xc004f074

2. Security center failed to validate called with error DC040780.

I am wondering what causes this and what can I do to fix the issue. OS is windows 10 Pro.

TIA

No. You can also try BlueScreenView, but the home version of Whocrashed would be fine. Either application just looks at the error message that you received and translates it into English.

"failed VL activation"

Why are you getting a failed volume license activation?  You have a VL key?  The 0xc004f074 is saying the KMS is unavailable.

I think this had less to do with the BSOD but the Windows activation?

No idea about the second error...could be tied to the first one.  /shrug

Here is the output from the dumps as they are all the same.

Well the dumps suggest that there is a problem with a driver, but I'd be more inclined to look at what @Jim K says. For some reason you've got a Volume Licence key that's unable to activate or talk to the activation server?
