jnelsoninjax
I have been attempting to download and install a game via the windows store for the last 3 days and each time I attempt to do so, I get this error: I have reset the store and reset the computer, and the error still persists. Does anyone have any idea as to what this error means and how to fix it? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1408505-windows-store-error/ Share on other sites

George P Global Moderator Posted June 3, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted June 3, 2021 Do you have the new Xbox app installed? Also the first one is 1-3 together, so why do you have chapter 2 listed at the end? What happens if you got rid of the chapter 2 listing? Nick H. Supervisor Posted June 3, 2021 Supervisor Share Posted June 3, 2021 You may have an issue at the moment because the Games and Gaming Services seems to be suffering an outage. But I don't think that would explain the issues over the past 3 days... Louisifer
Gaming services is the issue. just like with windows update... once an update decides to fail, it is a pita to to fix. I probably spent 4 hours last week trying to get it to install because after a few months using gamepass it decided the working version wasn't good enough anymore. The windows store offers no tools to help and is the sole reason for the issue. tbh I'm not sure how I finally solved the issue, I read many ways to not fix the problem online, rebuilding the store didn't work, store trouble shooter didn't work, completely uninstalling gamepass and the service didn't work and theres no way I'm reinstalling an entire os for a gaming service.. My final steps left before I just cancelled my gamepass instead was taking ownership of too many folder/files and deleting all references to gaming services in the registry that a guide told me about. After a few restarts it still failed, after I gave up I got a notification that it got installed. 🤷♂️ If MS insist on using the same windows update delivery mechanism for everything then they need to add options when it fails, reinstalling the os as a workaround shouldn't be the recommended option. If it's a multipart product it'll list the main package then any parts below that. I figured, but I don't see chapter 3 listed there in the image. I've installed a handful of games via the xbox app using my game pass sub without issue. But It does it through the xbox app and not the store, even though the backend might be shared between the two. So I'm wondering if he's got the app installed and if he's tried doing it through that? George P Global Moderator Posted June 3, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted June 3, 2021 If it's gaming services that's the problem you could uninstall and reinstall them and see if that works. Open PowerShell as admin and then do. get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage –allusers start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN The store should open and you can try to install gaming services again on iit's own. Joe User
Before you start resetting more things, visit https://account.microsoft.com/devices/content and double check the information. Verify that your current install is there. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1408505-windows-store-error/#findComment-598648831 Share on other sites
George P Global Moderator Posted June 3, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted June 3, 2021 The error more or less means the base game isn't installed while it's trying to install chapter 2 before it, which is weird. You could kill this 1-3 pack and go and download just the base game, which is free atm anyways. Then try to snag chapters 2 and 3 individually instead of this 1-3 pack. OK, I did that and removed two old installations of my system 1 hour ago, George P said: The error more or less means the base game isn't installed while it's trying to install chapter 2 before it, which is weird. I tried to install chapter 1, and it says I do not have any applicable devices linked, same error happens when I try to install 1-3 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1408505-windows-store-error/#findComment-598648842 Share on other sites
goretsky Supervisor Posted June 4, 2021 Supervisor Share Posted June 4, 2021 Hello, Just to check, no Windows 10 "debloating" or "update prevention" software has been run on the computer? These types of programs will often break the Windows Store and associated apps because they disable the underlying software or prevent it from getting the updates required to use new applications. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1408505-windows-store-error/#findComment-598648868 Share on other sites

George P Global Moderator Posted June 4, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted June 4, 2021 Weird, then it seems to be down to Gaming Services. On my system that bit was updated back on the 28th of May. I suppose you could go ahead and try uninstalling it and then re-installing it and see what happens? TBH, and I know this sucks to say, I've never had that freeze up on me. That specific service is updated often actually. Have you also checked out the services.msc and stopped and restarted it? In the services tool/list there's two of them, stop and restart them, or just stop them both and see if it'll finally update via the store and after a reboot they'll start up again on their own. I've had pretty much this exact scenario (with Gaming Services and all) happen when updating Insider Preview builds (not the normal OS.) ...honestly I didn't know how to fix it after basically trying everything so I reinstalled my OS. The internet ideas were 100% unhelpful. (Though I hope something in here pans out.) So I stopped both gaming services via services.msc, went to the store and told it to download the game, and suddenly it is downloading.,, goretsky 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1408505-windows-store-error/#findComment-598648966 Share on other sites
