MSI Katana GF66; is this a decent/good (gaming) notebook?

Recommended Posts

My GF asked me to look out for a notebook on which she can play games (not the latest & greatest), but with de 'decent' GPU. And do here regular mail/Office etc. tasks [nothing really major here].

I came across the MSI Katana GF66, more specfiic: MSI Katana GF66 11UD-003NL

I have not yet heard of the Katana (semi)brand.

Is this like TUF compared to ROG from ASUS?

Is this a MSI Katana good notebook? Or is a better line-up from MSI advisable? Or should I turn to ASUS?

Budget is around 1000 EUR.

Hello,

I am not familiar with that particular model, but a number of my friends have MSI gaming laptops and they are very happy with them.

Thx.

I know MSI as good gaming rigs. My preferred brands are either Asus or MSI (depending on specs/pricelevel)

So for gaming, and other day-to-day tasks this should be a good one, than?

I also came across this Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05H notebook. How do you guys this one is compared to the abovementioned MSI Katana?

(What's the general view on Lenovo (gaming) notebooks here? From wayyy back, Lenova wasn't that good I thought, but how is their (build)quality in 2021??

Hello,

Lenovo makes excellent business notebooks (their ThinkPad line); I've used them since 1994 or so and been happy with them.

Legion is a relatively newer line, about four years old, and while they started out with shipping older hardware as competitors in the gaming space were introducing newer hardware, they have since caught up and are releasing new gaming laptops at the same cadence as their competitors.  Lenovo's Legion laptops avoid a lot of the design elements used by other manufacturers; specifically LED lights projecting out in all directions, which I personally find kind of tacky.  Some people like those kind of design cues, I prefer mine to be more subtle and evolved.

I personally haven't used any of the gaming laptops from the Legion line, but I did have a gaming keyboard, mouse and headset that I got when they were introducing the brand.  The keyboard and the mouse were average for gaming hardware, but the headset was actually quite excellent.
