Jim K Global Moderator Posted August 28, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted August 28, 2021 Looks like it's going to be a bad one. 16 years after Katrina. Forecasted to be a Cat 4 when it makes landfall in Louisiana tomorrow morning. Quote Aug 28 (Reuters) - Hurricane Ida on Saturday intensified over warm Gulf of Mexico waters, prompting tens of thousands to flee coastal areas, while President Joe Biden pledged aid to help states quickly recover once the storm has passed. Forecasters said Ida could make a U.S. landfall on Sunday as an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale, generating winds of 140 miles per hour (225 kph), heavy downpours and a tidal surge that could plunge much of the Louisiana shoreline under several feet of water. On Saturday afternoon Ida was about 290 miles (470 km) southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River, packing top winds of 100 miles per hour (155 kph) and aiming for the Louisiana coast, the National Hurricane Center said. //snip Reuters +Edouard and Mindovermaster 2 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1410901-hurricane-ida/ Share on other sites

That idea dates back to a meteorologist named Jack Reed, one of the earliest hurricane hunters. His calculations predicted 1-2 20 MT nukes might be able to deflect a hurricane. Incorrect by far, but at the time nuclear geo-engineering and weather/climate control were thought possible. It still pops up from time to time. Irrigating the Sahara is an immensely DUMB thing to do, it would collapse the global climate even quicker. The planet NEEDS desert regions just as much as it needs jungles. techbeck
Lots of flooding in Jersey as well. I will never live is in an area were disasters like this happen. And in Jersey, I have seen pics of flooded streets and highways. Cars floating and people trapped in doors since the flood level is several feet high. Before AZ, I lived in N.IL where the worst get got there is the rare tornado and cold weather. I will never live in CA. To expensive and getting even to expensive to visit these days. Florida isn't even close to having the crowding, traffic, homeless, and cost of living problems that CA has. Go visit Miami vs LA, San Fran, or San Diego. Not all of Florida is like Disney, just as not all of CA is like LA. But it's hard to deny which place is better to live in going by the population growth and retiree destinations. FL has the clear advantage there. If somebody is that concerned by heat and humidity, then come live up by me in the snow. I lived in a little town called Holiday in New Port Richey, FL. , not too far from Tampa, for 6 months back in the 80's whilst my dad was working over there. Not exactly what you'd call a tourist flooded hot spot.
